Getting to Silverstone this weekend?

Hi guys,

Got our tickets for Sunday, and on site parking.

What time do people suggest trying to arrive at the track?

We're coming from Guildford area and don't want to sit in hours of traffic, if we were to leave at say 7am should we get to the track fairly easily?

I live about 40 miles away and im planning on leaving at 7.30 expect it will take us at least to hours to get there. Then need to park up walk to the track find our seats.
If you have reserved seats you will probably be ok, if you have genereal admission tickets you might want to aim to get there a bit earlier and find a good spot

If you leave Guildford at 7 you should get in in time to watch the GP. Would recommend leaving no later than 5 - unless things have changed recently.

Is Saturday quieter traffic wise? I have general admission tickets for Sat only. I don't know where the good spots are though, anyone got any suggestions?

I was expecting leave at 7am, park up 9.30ish!!

Is it really that bad that early?

I have reserved seating, but was wanting to avoid sitting in traffic all day long.

When I went to the British GP on race day a couple of years ago there was no problem with access at all, we were directed to a strange entrance through the back lanes though - it was a corporate thing. But we drove straight in and straight out again, no queues at all

I live just outside Winchester. If I was travelling to the circuit on Sunday I would set off at about 5 in the morning. The jams into the track have to be seen to be believed. I either camp near the circuit or go to Northampton and get a heli shuttle in and out. And just to be extra "helpful" the last couple of years there's been an DVLA ANPR van parked up on the Dadford road approach.

Personally I would aim to be there and parked up by 7.30am. Any later than that and you are likely to queue and the problem then is that it only takes a couple of shunts for all hell to break loose.

I'd go early and then relax once you get there....

Leave home about 4.30am - get in the circuit for 7am and watch people arrive and the atmosphere build. Grab some breakfast and a coffee and enjoy.

The roads are nice at 4.30 as well !

If you fancy a cracking drive upto Silverstone, come off the M25 @ Jct 20 (A41 Aylesbury) head north and then take the A413 towards Buckingham then towards Silverstone. You will avoid the A43 / M1 / M40, and should make pretty good time until just past Stowe School!

Get there early its going to be busy with fans hoping for a British victory and a sell out crowd.

I arrived after getting a little lost near Towcester last year at 8.40 and there weren't any significant traffic problems. However...both the Saturday and the Sunday were horrendous on leaving at 5ish, took hours to drive the normal 30 minute drive.

Anyone with Club Silverstone tickets will be directed to the East hospitality fieldcar park. it's easier to get to that one, but if it chucks it down during the day getting out can be interesting especialy if your car is lower than a lawyers morals.

Yup i agree that is a wonderful route and the one i will be taking this weekend.
Went out for a hoon in the MR2 last wek and decided to take this route too

Err why the hell do you people leave so early? I live not far from Guildford and leaving at 7.00 you will be in the car park by 9.00 at the latest.

Left west london last year around 9am on both days and made it with lots of time to spare..... ,, if you use the "F1 Officials" lane's it can be easier, and they dont check your pass's until you get closer to the dadford road , by that time you can change lanes

please don't use the F1 officials lanes! did my head in last year, people in the wrong lane then kept getting stuck and having to turn around causing chaos for everyone. just queue like everyone else does or get in earlier (you can always have a nap once you get in )

How early would be reccomended for Abingdon. Missus and I are staying in a Hotel there Fri and Sat night, so have no idea when really to leave. Would 8am be suitable?

getting stuck? where abouts , for traffic reasons or wrong pass

the roundabout just at the entrance to silverstone is a nightmare - everyone queues in teh left hand lane but unless you have a car park pass, you can't turn left - the roundabout is always full and stationary so it's very hard to rejoin. on the sunday, sometimes the saturday, it's coned off too so they have to move the cones to allow you to rejoin the roundabout.
