Help. Tried to bleed/replace brake fluid today, and 2 of the bleed niples on the rear calipers have snapped off. Arse. I have someone looking at them to see if they can be repaired, but does anyone know if replacement calipers are availble and where from? Can't see any on the usual TVR parts websites (Clevor Trevor/Racing Green etc.)

Bummer

Just refurbed mine and had to be really careful - luckily they came out...

Drill them out and tap the holes?

Not sure what car / where they are from...from memory i seem to recall someone saying the pads are from a mini...or was I pi**ed that day? Sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon!

Mine are AP Calipers - not sure if they are standard fit or upgrades, but I am sure AP can still supply ... Failing that, Douglas breakers for a replacement and get it refurbed before fitting

Yeah, I am trying to get a price direct form AP. Thought about the option of a breakers, but might just end up with the same problem, seized nipples! wink

Surely it would be easier to drill them out and helicoil?

Took them to one local place, said he couldn't drill them and helicoil because of the taper at the bottom of the hole and wasn't prepared to try. My GF's dad runs a garage and is having a look, fairly confident he can do it, but just exploring options in case!

Replaced the front pads on mine and noticed they had stickers saying refurbed by AP. That's probably the best bet?

I drilled mine out, a fag paper less than the metal and then picked the remaining pieces out. The taper is not a problem, you need to clamp it down solid enough on a good pillar drill.

Thanks for the advice, will let you know how it goes.

Get them spark eroded.

I had exactly the same problem but Julian64 helped drill them out, he was a star!

But for future ref' the best way we gor thyem out was to heat the caliper using gas and then supercool the nipple with plumber's pipe freeze.

rear pads are indeed old skool mini ones, £12 I paid for mine from my local motor factors, bought them, fitted them and they work, so its fact not myth.

cheaper than some shops advertising rear pads for £100 and they aren't even a special compound. its the whole "its tvr whack the price up" scenario again i think

This used to happen to me a lot with the SD1's - I welded a nut onto what's left of the nipple. The combination of heat and the extra purchase never failed to do the trick.

is the main problem that the nipples are crap and break or is it a combination of the different metals that course's the problem with them snapping, or does the thread in the main body get stripped ?

Then you put serious pads in the front and it WAYYY too front biased and it locks up really easily... Having good quality rear pads is often overlooked, and makes an incredible difference. When i upgraded all of my front tackle i thought i had screwed it up, but then putting equal quality rear pads sorted it.
