Hi BMW forum,

I've been offered a company car swap to an 08 318d ES - and have to give a yes or no this week, without seeing said beast.
My last job's offering was a 07 318d SE, which I had for about 2 years, what changed between 07 and 08? Also, what spec would i be missing moving from SE to ES?

Thanks to all

Graham

If you go to www.bmw.co.uk it outlines the specs of the cars.

Any ideas where to get to the '08 spec? It might not have changed for this year, but I'm sure wikipedia claimed that 09 had a facelift and spec change - so the current diffrences seem to be:

SE has better 'loys
runflat tyres
better air con
park assist at rear
those nice lights on door handles, footwell etc i used to like. In fact, from the spec the es interior lacks any lighting at all?
auto dim rear view mirror

So guessing that the spec was like my old 53 model, I'm basically looking forward to pony aircon, and naff alloys so everyone can see I drive the pikey one - BUT in return I get to lose the god awful invention that are runflat tyres?
Losing park assist and the natty lights will be less of a worry, although I DID like those lights =)

Isn't ES the genuineley depressing Extra st model??

I have had one on loan, I don't think it even had climate control, which all mondeos have these days.

oh bugger, is it _that_ bad? It's currently take this ES, or I'm stuck with the urrent Mondeo 2.0 Zetec TDi thing - which is hard to fault, except for the fact it's utterly, deoressingly average. It's not fast, but annoyingly slow. The interior isn't that good, but it isn't french either. I mean, it dosent even understeer, because the traction cotrol does that "tourque limiting" crap so it just goes more slowly.

It's dead annoying joinging a company just at the wrong moment - and inheriting the option of 2 cars you don't particularly want for the next 2 years, lol. At least I enjoy the other aspects of the job i spose =)

ES isnt so bad. It just means it has air con (not climate) and wheels made out of proper metal (alloys). And thats pretty much it.

There was a facelift but from memory i dont think the specs changed much.

ES is ok as a spec. A wee bit basic but still better than plodding about in a mundaneo.

Thanks for the input guys, I've given it the green light, and find out what colour it is (in and out) when I collect it in the near future!

Just for future reference, an 08 318D ES has 143bhp rather than the 122bhp of the pre-08 models, and it has the pre-08 SE alloys. In 2009 things further changed when they gave it a complete facelift.
