Why are Gallardo prices on the up?
Discussion
I have seen people advertising their 2004 coupe cars for £65K+ and in some cases over £70+ (You can get a 2006 spyder for £75K).
Are people actually buying at these prices? Back in Jan/Feb they were being advertised for below 60K so I would have thought these cars would be £50K by the end of the year.
Are these sellers just chancers or has the market turned for these cars.
Have been looking at the classifieds everyday for many many months waiting for the £50K car to arise (expecting this to be sometime towards the end of this year) but this doesnt look like it will happen. As a result am now thinking about perhaps picking up a 360 spider for around £40K instead around that time.

Can you point me at the £40k 360 Spider and the £75k Gallardo Spyder as these prices seem a tad optomistic.
360 Spyder - £42k http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/926664.htm
Gallardo Spyder(s) - £80k (not too far off)

Summer.
+1Its a well documented phenomena that happens every year. Depressed prices in winter. Increases in spring/summer. The increased prices are a bit late this year given that the credit climate stifled purchases in the spring.
and also, those very 'cheap' Gallardos were (are?) a phenomenon of a problem that's best illustrated by the squeals of distress as people realised that they couldn't really afford a Gallardo (or similar aspirational vehicle) due to their financial status hitting rock bottom and the cars suddenly being 'equipped' with the deeper-drilling tools of 'negative equity' in their cars and so still leaving them with money to pay even when sold as swiftly as possible...
Perhaps the worst of those 'panic sales' are over; perhaps those pigs with wings will fly above us all again one day.
Hmm, not so sure about the offers firming up though!
Had decided to swap the G around September time. For a bit of advance research, I went to an unconnected dealer to see what they had to offer, and as part, asked for a valuation on mine (1st March 08 e-gear coupe, 5K miles, Balloon White).
They contacted me late yesterday to say they'd had several offers (none linked to buying their offering), with the Lambo network offering 75K - no specific names mentioned. One offer came in at almost what I am looking for (from a non franchise), but they want it immediately, which has lead to a quandry.
If prices are firming, they don't appear to have firmed on the buying side yet.
Cheers Bradders.

Supercar values bottomed out in February, then stabilised and in the last few months have crept up. It was widely considered that the prices had sunk artificially low due to the number of forced sales over the winter - those really cheap cars dried up pretty quickly though. Prices have since "re-adjusted" themselves, and as supply is relatively thin, retail prices have rallied. Unfortunately, the buying public still seem to believe that it is February......
Obviously there is a big difference between what the trade offer, and what people retail the cars out for.

basically no new cars are coming into the market for the last year hence the entire market in the range is being squeezed as there are less cars to pick from, dont get me wrong last year there were LESS buyers but now these buyers are coming back (and theres more of them as folks can now almost stretch to affording one )but theres not enough cars around. Simple supply and demnad stuff. Same is happening for all the other high end cars. If you bought a second hand range rover at the end of last year for a good price you'll prob be up 5k on it now. go and see you local dealers, there is simply no stock as very little new cars have been bought for the last 9 months.Obviously there is a big difference between what the trade offer, and what people retail the cars out for.

I mentioned this very point last summer on the forum when everyone thought that there were going to be mega cheap super cars every where. If people are not buying new then there are going to be no second hand ones available a year later. The end of last year was the time to buy new (as long as you were going to keep it for a couple of years) as the dealers were really in a panic wondering what was going to be happening if things got worse. As long as you did not want to do a trade in, real bargains were available. I was offered a new F430 built to order at 7% off, a stock F430 at what the dealer paid for it (12% off?)and even a LP560 (what I went for in the end) with a discount off a built to spec car with a 6 month waiting list!
I doubt if you can get deals like this now as production has been cut back to limit supply.
