Hello to all. I'm new to PH and ask for your patience if I ask a stupid question that has probably been asked a hundred times before. I will go back through previous posts before asking, so hopefully it won't happen too often.

I'm pretty sure I met some of you at last years factory open day.

I live on the west coast of Australia and I have recently ordered a GTR. It is due to leave the factory in early July.

My first question is.. Are any of the contributors to this forum living in Australia. I have noticed some references to Aus in the members list, but I'm not sure if they are up to date. If anyone is in the process of building their Ultima or have completed one recently in Australia, I would like to hear from you.

PS; Its great to read the posts here, you certainly get a look at both sides of an issue and ones opinion is often the complete opposite of anothers. Really good to see open debate. smile

Thanks for your time.

Adam

not building yet, still want to. would be keen to hear how you get on with the importing of it.

ive been looking at building for a while and as such have been doing a lot of research, and have more info on some of the cars/owners listed above.

if you have ordered from the factory i would ask if they can throw a spare windscreen in with it. would be a pain to have to ship one of them accross later, and a custom one off screen is going to be in the order of $5000 Au.

Give me a call if you want. (phone number removed - send pm if still need to get in touch)

Miraz, The quote i had when looking at getting a custom screen made was around the $5000 mark, most of that went in tooling. subsequent screens were ~$600au after the tooling had been made.

there are a few other cars in Australia
http://www.gctmc.org.au/webfiles//PITSTOP%20Magazi...

and there is a blue one that’s been advertised for sale a while back
along with the two on car sales at the moment.

might be getting close to the point where it would be beneficial to have screens available locally.

Hi Geoff, happy to put an extra windscreen in with mine if it helps, it will land in Fremantle WA though....
I have to ship the car in two consignments on different vessels to prevent the 24% Luxury Car Tax being applied so there will be plenty of room in the box that only has the chassis and body.

If they have posted left click on their name which will take you to their profile. Top right, click on 'email me'. Complete the message you want to send and it will go to their email address.

To find a member click on 'Members' at the top of this page then 'directory' then enter the name or part of the name in the search box. A click on the name when found will again take you to their profile.

When in the profile if you click on forums you can see if they have been on in the last 30 or 60 days which will give a clue if they are still active.

Adam, are you bring it in under this ruling

http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?c=2304

i was thinking of placing an order soon, just going to get some of the bigger things like chassis/body/windscreen/wing/role cage and other bits to get me started in the first shipment. then get the rest like wheels, transaxle, adaptor plate, seats, drive shafts, brakes ect in a second shipment so that it came in as just parts.

would be registered as an individually constructed vehicle under "Vic Roads" requirements.

just need to get a few things finished on the house renovation / workshop fit out first.

Yes, Alan May ( based in Syd ) has had an Ultima delivered recently and he gave me the info for importing as parts.
I have confirmed facts with local sources and while no one will put their name on the line, the info seems to be correct. Alan had to forward his onto NZ, have it re-packed there and sent back to Syd on different vessels.

Not sure if the factory approved, but I placed a deposit to lock in the purchase price back in October 08. About a day later the AU dollar fell out of bed and I have waited for it to regain ground before continuing. At about 2 to 1 at present which I am comfortable with. Let me know if you want info on transferring funds to UK, definitely wouldn't go through a bank, I will save about 4k in fees on the purchase price !

Still hesitant about sending 15k deposit to US for the engine, but Ted assures me A/speed are reputable and he wouldn't have any hesitation.

Looking forward to seeing the crate in my driveway...

Hey guys,

First post....

I'm about 12-24 months off ordering one and have been doing some research. If you're thinking of an LS series engine, they are imported on bulk here to Australia and slotted into some HSV vehicles. As such, you can get them locally, all ready to go. I fell into this link last week, which happens to be 9 months old now, but surely they can help you save some dollars on shipping. However, probably best to do some serious research - checking mount points, exact sizes and the like to make sure the engine will drop straight in. If you put the emphasis on them to work it out for you, you may just come away with both a bargain and a local problem solver who has some hands on time with your machine. Anyway, heres the link:

Wow what a relevant thread as I was talking about this last night!
I'm thinking of bringing the family back to Sydney next year and by family I also mean my GTR.

Problem is I'm not sure of the ADR regs I'd need to get through to have it driveable in Oz.

It's a 9 year old car and has no emissions control. Happy to throw on some CATs but just wondering if it would be easy to register.

Can any Aussie assist??
