Corvette No.72 crash Tetre Rouge Saturday night photos.

After spending an hour or so at Tetre Rouge decided to turn around and start to walk off when one of the Lola Astons came into contact with the 3rd place GT1 Corvette.

Here are a sequence of photos of the crash. apologies for the quality on some, these were quickly grabbed shots, taken on a slowish speed as it was getting dark.

I saw this too, my heart really went out to that driver and the crew as they had had such a solid race and the thee covettes were really having a blast. Going to be interesting having them in the GT2 class next year

I had just arrived on the inside of the corner when this happened!
I was in the "cripple pen" along with the photographers, I was the only cripple in there btw!

A shame for the Vette, it was quite a clout from the Aston and a bit of a crappy move by the Aston too, IMO, even oafter using the vette as a buffer, he still ran off the track, but just stayed out the gravel!

I saw this as well, gutted for the driver who looked (understandably) pretty pissed off. It really was out of his control as he was just a victim of the Aston pushing past on a corner.

However, after the race I walked the track and had a snoop around where that corvette hit the wall. I found this:



At first I thought it was a bonnet pin but I'm not so sure. It is about 12cm in total length and says "AVK push pull" on it. Any ideas what it is?

Nice sequence of photos. I was also on the inside of Tertra Rouge when this happened, a little further back around the corner from where the photos were taken. The accident was a real shame, and the Aston was a little too keen to get through.

It's a hand grenade pin.....run!

It's a bodypin. Push it in and it locks and when you pull it out you release it automatically.

Fantastic pics Supraman felt really sorry for Patrice Goueslard (driver at the time) as he got nerfed off by Darren Turner in the Aston and to compound things the Aston got away scott free.

DT should at least have had a lengthy stop and go for avoidable contact.

The #72 could have inherited 2nd place in GT1 which along with the eventual 2nd (the sister #73 car) would have been a fantastic result for the Luc Alphand Aventures team.

So thats what happened to it! I saw a french bloke with one of the doors off it at a baguette stand just after the race, was tempted to smash and grab it off him

The pin is actually one of the quick release pins that secures the nose box to the chassis - there are 4 of them that hold the nose box on a C6R. Well, until it hits a tire wall!

However, he only joined Pistonheads the 20th June so I'll ring them tomorrow - no, make that I'll pop in on my way to a meeting since they are on the Technoparc - and ask if he is genuine. Then I'll post tomorrow afternoon. Frankly, I don't think the piece is that important anyway.
