1st year of Ferrari ownership now passed, and what a fantastic year.

Car is a little spoilt however, and does require regular visits to either the bodyshop, the mechanic, the upholsteter and even the windscreen replacer:

Annual service (with lots of pumps renewed) and MOT – legal requirement, as you know
Door sills replaced by carbon fibre items – originals were corroding and rough looking
Passenger airbag cover replaced – original was shrunken and dishevelled
Drivers seat re-connolised around lumbar support
Leather cover for instrument binnacle refurbished
Alloy wheels refurbished and need to be done again!
Corrosion around rear buttress addressed
Corrosion around wheel arches addressed
Bonnet resprayed – stone chips
In November – cambelts due and annual service
New battery fitted
Windscreen replaced (paid only windscreen excess)

Is this par for the course, or does your vehicle spend 300+ days at your dealer?

Bumfffffff

F355 GTS

Owned 10 years
Annual service and cambelts every three years
One set of engine mounts at four years.
Three pairs of rear tyres
Two pairs of front tyres.
Front bumper repsrayed once at six years
One new battery.
One fuse!
Two new batteries for the key and that’s about it. I have been lucky, I guess.

Boon.

Boon1000 and Renmure.

May I ask about the interior leather items on your vehicles (and I will just add, as F355 owners, you are persons of impeccable taste and fine breeding).....

.... which cows gave up their hide to line your seats, instrument binnacle and airbag covers? Because those on my vehicle are averse to people's backsides and the sun. They just shrivel up and distend.

You need to feed the leather (as a precaution - obviously that binaccle has had it).

I'm just coming up to year 1, and agreed, what a fantastic year.

Mine has also had a bit of work, including:

Annual service (next week) and MOT
Door sills are fine
Leather on the dash is not perfect, but I figure I will sort this out one day. Its only cosmetic and doesn't really bother me that much. Same with the seat leather which is scuffed from use. Bought some Cobra carbon buckets to have trimmed (once I manage to fit them) and then I will set about refurbishing the factory seats.
Alloy wheels - mine need to be refurbished but again, I'll get round to it. No kerbing, just some bubbling.
I have a small paint crack on one rear buttress and some corrosion around a rear wheel arch but again, not a high priority for me and probably something to do over winter.
My front and bonnet are covered in stone chips but again, not a priority as I drive it all over Europe.
It needs a new battery and the alternator to be reconditioned whihc I will sort over the next 2-3 weeks.
Windscreen needs to be replaced (only windscreen excess), again next week I think.
Heater controls went haywire but since sorted by Verdi.
Exhaust valve rattle which is annoying but inevitible. Fixed a few times, but need to find a decent solution.
Fitted a Capristo and some hi-flow cats which are just EPIC.
Speedo and oil pressure senders both failed but again were sorted by Verdi.
The front ventillation flap failed (usual plastic attachment), again sorted by Verdi.

That's about it. All minor stuff really.

I am at about 18 months on mine and so far its had

1 x annual service ( about £400)
1 X pair of handbrake shoes ( about £75)

Lots of Zymol

and one mad moment when a slow down light came on but then went off and was fine once checked by the garage.

Having said that I am ashamed to say its done 368 miles since last july ...... I know I know

In fact I am even thinking about selling

Hi DrYazz,

A little bit of TLC every now and again with some leather cream. That and it is kept out of the sunlight in the garage when not in use. Other than that I have been pretty fortunate.

I seem to have been pretty lucky with the rear buttresses not showing any signs of corrosion or exhaust manifold cracking - touch wood. Perhaps it is because it is a late model car. Funnily enough it has always dripped a little bit of oil on the garage floor if left a few days, never enough to need to topping up between services (unless I have been on a track day in which case it generally needs a pint) but not something I hear anyone else mentioning.

Boon.

Hi DrYazz

I did have some work done to attend to some leather wear on the seat bolster of my F355 but didn't really count it as an expense since it didn't really need doing. The pics in the link make it look worse than it actually was.

ps. recently sold the car and replaced it with a 360 Spider so I guess my good taste, but hopefully not fine breeding, have gone downhill smile
