Guys, Girls and Stig.

As some of you may be aware on the 15th of May I had some young mentalist drove into my car on purpose. Now the car has been with Vaux ever since and I've been blessed with a lovely 1.2l Corsa Design.

I picked the hire car up with 1,800 miles on the clock, it now has 5,800!

Vaux had replaced the wing and bumper, resprayed and finished the body work on the 'Ro in 4 days. However during the last Month the local dealership master fit mechanic (Mike at Sherwoods, who happens to be a great bloke) has been trying to fix my ABS and TC issue, which I've had since almost xmas.

Now they're tried a new lower brake pedal sensor earlier in the yeaar, to no avail. This took around 4-6 weeks to get in. Mike ordered up a new sensor/loom last week on the Wednesday, it arrived the following day only to actually be a wheel bearing inside the box. Don't ask.

I have been told that they are awaiting delivery of another sensor/loom however there is no predicted delivery date.

I am tempted to go and get the car this Saturday, means driving from Hook near Basingstoke all the way to Darlington 300 mile round trip. I'm sick to death of this Corsa, I do around 4,000 miles a month, which is normally in the 'Ro but it's been in this tinny underpowered little ball bag of a car during May and June and I feel like crying.

So what I'm asking is do you think I should wait (as I'm off to Glastonbury next week too) and leave the car with Vaux, awaiting delivery of this part or should I get her back and enjoy her until the part comes in? It would make the Glasto traffic much easier to cope with, stop start, burble burble.

Mike's also been looking into a scuffing noise I'm getting from the front drivers side wheel. The car has had 4 different types of tyre on the front corner, now with Bridgestone Potenza RE050's all around at the moment and still scuffing. It's not the rubber as I initially thought, cost me £600 to learn that but hey. No catching on the inner wing, strut bottom. Could it be the brake pads, only when I corner hard to the left and load up the front drivers wheel. Do the pads move around enough to just catch? Been stumped for ages.

Could the edge of the disc, if it has enough build up on the lip catch the NEW performance pads (supplied by Monkfish) and sound like an undulating grind/scuff? Nowt serious, just annoying and I want to get to the bottom of it?

What I'm bored of is this corsa, but I also want the 'Ro fixed.

Hmm decisions decisions .....

Cheers guys.
Sii

Dare i say it but could it be a small amount of play in the wheel bearing altering the angle of the disc in the caliper as the side loading moves the hub, at least theyve got a wheel bearing in stock now.

Drew, it's not a deep noise, sounds to me like a mud flap catching a wheel as it rotates, obviously not as I don't have mud flaps and the wheel doesn't catch the catch the arch liner.

If they can't sus that this week I may ask Roger to have a peek for me.

my old car had a stone caught between the disc guard/deflector and the disc. made a really awful sound, but not as bad as when i had (gods knows how) bent the same disc guard and it ended up catching the disc under certain conditions, sounded like the wheel bearing/fwd drive shaft on its way out, but one slight tweak (read bend) with a screwdriver sorted it out!

My car only does it when I corner hard, my other half can't even hear the noise. I can though.

Maybe bearing or warped disc. If it's a disc then it would be rude not to fit APs

My brakes used to make the tick tick noise after warming up. This turned out to be warped discs....cue nice new set of APs!

The ABS sensor is not available as a seperate part. Comes as part of the wheel bearing hub assembly.

So, you have an ABS fault and a noise from the front wheel. Both faults potentially share the same part. Which side does the mechanic think has the ABS fault. Same as the noise????

He doesn't believe it's a sensor within the wheel, he believes it's pedal based, well that's what the diagnostic machine said. When he unplugged the upper pedal sensor the warning stopped.

Has he scoped all the sensor outputs to see if there are any irregularities ??

Has he traced pedal switch loom from pedal to ecu and found a problem ? Or why is he ordering a new loom ?

Just some very baasic things to try, instead of just fault codes.

Re: noise. Does the pad friction material overlap the outer edge of the disc at all, causing it to rub on the outer diameter of the disc ? That could cause a noise.

Just called vaux and the part is on back order. So that means I will be dropping the corsa off this weekend and getting the 'Ro back.

Back to V8 burble after a month, woooooo hooooooo

Long shot... but the inner brake pads wear quicker than the outers. The inners also have a wear indicator (a bit of metal that starts to rub off the disk when they are worn down to nearly the metal). Could it be the wear indicator is bent more than usual and is rubbing? It is easy relatively easy to bend. I just bent mine back a few nights ago as I awaited delivery on new pads (thanks Monkfish received yesterday!)

pads are performance ones from the Fish, only covered 5000 motorways miles, so very much doubt they're worn enough. Will check though.

I doubt they are worn too, but the wear indicator may be bent so it is closer to the disc.

Does the ABS work? Your insurers might not be happy about you using it otherwise.

The ABS still works, it's just I get the dash warning and annoying 'bong bong bong' from time to time. The traction control doesn't come on at all, however neither of my fox body mustang, S2000 or old BMW 325 had that either so I can drive without it safely.

Just been told the damage from my hit and run came to around £4,000. £1,600 alone being for a new front bumper! Jeez.
