opinions wanted on 04 x type?

Can't comment on the diesel engine, but I've got a 2.5 '03. So far it's been pretty reliable. Couple of niggles - alloy wheels have been replaced as they were terribly corroded (previous owner kerbed a lot), tracking needs keeping an eye on as if it's out it eats tyres. Door handles sometimes very stiff & sometimes boot wont shut properly. It also needs a couple of bulbs at the back replacing but it looks a terrible job! Couple of rattles from the inside, but nothing major & certainly a lot less than my old E46. Overall, I've had mine for a couple of years & I'm very happy with it.
I've got an 04 plated X-Type 2.0 Diesel Sports Estate (or Sport "Wagon"
as it's officially called)
The plus points (from my point of view)
I get 500 miles (mixed driving )to the tank but have managed 590 on a long steady motorway run
The estate a a good sized boot
It's very comfortable (I have a bad back and used to have to have a break every 100 miles or so in my old Pug 406
Good leg room in the front (i'm 6' 7")
It pulls very well in all gears
Jag customer service are very helpful (when the dealers are having an off day)
The bad points
The read doors don't open very wide (can make it difficult for tall folks to get their legs in)
Not alot of space in the back with the front seats all the way back
Servicing at a main dealers (as was required by the Jag warrenty it came with) was a tad costly
It's had to have a new Air Flow Meter (under warrenty)
And a new tailgate switch (under warrenty)
The jack is very weedy
A pre facelift model should be as cheap as chips

The boxes are quite reliable in the 2.o-2.2 diesels.
i recently sold my 2.o d which went very well and after i remapped it was getting 49mpg no matter how i drove it.
servicing costs if done at an independant should be comparable to mondeo, never had any faults or issues with my 04 model..
