Thinking of an early Birkin, but I maybe wrong

Its a very nice car though.

Edited to add

I have crossposted the pics onto an international 7 site to see if that will bring anything up.

I have found out that its on `dealer plates`however.

Been doing a bit of digging, if that car was a competitor, he does not show in the event entry lists, even as a reserve for 2009. Also been through the 2008 entry and although a 7 did take part last year, it wasnt this one , that was a S4 Lotus 7. One last thing, the event decals on the bonnet do not match any of the pics I have seen on the cars from 07 to 09.

The sticker therefore is a red herring in that respect as it clearly says 2008 on it. Its from a different rally, which I havent found yet.

Still looking anyway.

Triumph suspension: possibly Locust.

I can't find any pictures of that specific one on the enthusiasts' club website (http://www.locust.org.uk), but I've not looked at every single picture smile

I have found two more pics with the driver and co-driver in it, but does not give the names.....

The bonnet sticker is a generic sticker given to all the entrants to mark the 30th year of its rally event.Although in this event it was car 28.

The car pictured above took no part in the 2009 event, that i do know for sure.

That's a very nice car, the wings look as if they're alloy, wonderful section to them.

I would guess that it isn't a Donkey due to it being RHD.
I expect it's a one-off built by someone who knows how to roll metal.

because it looks like spitfire..and when it looks like spitfire..it is spitfire!!

i guess its a heavily modfied locost or robin or even a dutton!!!

due to the no. plate the reg-date is min.25 or even 30 years old....but as the car is a UK-Import this isnt anything "special".

Deary me, so i guess its not GT6 or Herald/Vittesse then, just wondering how you can identify that as Spitfire susp, is there something that I should know?

I disagree. The front suspension does look like herald/spitfire/vitesse, but that was the best easily available front suspension available that long ago. Many specials used it. I suspect it pre-dates Locost and Robin, and the Dutton would have been around at the time, but it was glass fibre bodied, and this car is mostly aluminium.

Yes, I was thinking that with the second set of pictures (which are at a more "correct" angle smile ).

Well this has turned out more difficult than I expected. Seen lots of 7 type cars before but this one looked different so how, certianly a bit bigger than most. It did look very good though, suspect now that the body might be coachbuilt and not a std kit.

The German plates are red 07 plates, not quite the same as 06 trade plates, 07's are for so called test driving and transport of collectors cars (now only issued for cars > 30yrs)

Rich7 is correct the car was not pictured in the rally but just parked up close to it, it was parked next to a rather smart looking Alvis.

It is, hence my question.

Thanks to the OP, still working on this for you, have emailed some folks who may know of this car.

Will let you know if anything turns up.

ok....for me the spitfire type of suspension includes also the herald, vitesse or Gt6...but basically they are all the same and commonly named as "spitfire suspension"

also i stated "it might be a heavily modyfied locost, dutton etc."

so this would explain also the alloy body panels!!

By whom???? smile

I always think of it as Herald Front Suspension as this was the car it originated on. The Spitfire was just a cobbled together sportscar based on the Herald. biggrin

MORE commonly known as TRIUMPH !!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to ask you what are the differences are between the GT6/Vitesse and Herald/Spitfire type of suspension, because if you know, you could not possibily tell the difference based on the photos shown above.
