Canada --) Ultima Possible?
Discussion
I am not certain if the GTR/CanAm will pass Canadian requirements. I would check with Ted or Richard Marlow at Ultima to be certain. They would also be able to tell you if they can/will ship to Canada. My GTR is currently on order to be delivered in Feb. The deal (at least for the US) is that the shipment is made to the nearest port to you, and you are responsible for freight or pick-up from that port. If you email Ultima, they will be more than willing to answer your questions. My experiance with them has been outstanding.

You can get one into Canada but there is a specific process you HAVE to follow. If you don't they will turn it around at the border (I know from experience). There is one person you need to talk to in the ministry. They won't let you bring in a full kit directly i.e. only bodywork and chassis is allowed. After that you have to be a bit crafty to get the other bits in the country. The whole process is totally screwy from my perspective. Also getting insurance will be hard (the same for most kit cars). My friend ended up having to use facility at $6000 a year (ouch!).

Yes, Ultimas can be imported into Canada, but with several restrictions. The total of the parts being imported must be less than the Transport Canada definition of "a vehicle". This means no suspension, brakes, fuel system, drivetrain. This list is not official - you must contact Transport Canada directly to find out what you can import. You must do this BEFORE the parts ship from Ultima to ensure they will be allowed entry. If your shipment qualifies as a vehicle, then it is subject to meeting the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and since the Ultimas have not been crash tested for this purpose, they don't meet FMVSS and are not allowed. I took delivery of my GTR parts 2 weeks ago, and I know another received his a week before me. Being in Quebec, I strongly recommend researching your local laws as each province is different for registration/smog laws.

I sold my Ultima Sport to a racing team in Canada I am sure it is still being raced in the Candian National GT Series by a guy by the name of Dave Goadby. Dave also has a Stealth B6 he races.
It was quite a serious bit of kit when sold, the rough spec goes something like;
All suspension geometry modified, strengthened. Front and rear adjustable anti roll bars. Larger bearings fitted to uprights, centre lock wheels, 6 pot AP's all round on 13" floating discs. SPA fully adjustable dampers. Chassis heavily modified for torsional stiffness and lightened. Engine solidly mounted, moved forward and lowered, on dry sump giving 510BHP. Hewland DGC transaxle solidly mounted with front and rear eagle braces. Air jacks all round, removable body adjustable aero kit splitters, venture, gurney strips and dive planes and the list goes on and on.....
I can post pics if people are interested although i do not know where the car is now I have a ton of detailed custom build work, photos and info.
regards
Tony

Indeed it is.
I have been away from racing for some years now.
Just beginning to fancy a new toy.
We sold the car to Dave Goadby in 2000 he went on to sucessfully campaign it in the Nationals in Canada in GT1 class mixing it with Porsche GT1 EVOs and Corvettes (came 3rd over all). I have some pics of the car in race trim it does look good I must say.
What I find suprising is look at the mods on my car of 3 years ago and still not many people are doing them - i guess they were track only mods though !
Anyway good to hear from you I will email you some pics.
Regards..
