Saab And Koenigsegg Meet

Saab Aero X and Koenigsegg CCX snapped together in prophetic meeting of the marques

Intriguing images have surfaced in Sweden of what might have been the first meeting - albeit unplanned – of Saab and Koenigsegg models in front of the media.

According to forum posts on saabunited, these photographs of the Koenigsegg CCX and the Saab Aero X concepts took place on an airfield in Sweden in 2006 when German magazines were photographing a drive story on the Aero X in 2006. The CCX appeared out of the blue, when the Koenigsegg team rolled their car out for a quick comparison and to snap some souvenir shots.

Meanwhile, Saab has released a video interview with its managing director Jan Åke Jonsson in which he answers questions about the proposed takeover of his company by Koenigsegg. Although Jonsson doesn’t give away much, he does confirm that the Saab will share technology and get supplies from its current owner GM for a period of time, and maintains he is very confident of a bright future for Saab in the long run.

A story in today’s Financial Times puts a little more meat on the bones. The paper quotes sources close to the deal, saying that GM will put more into the takeover than the Koenigsegg investors will – including donating production tooling for the next-generation 9-5 and a cash lump sum of $150m.

GM will also provide vehicle architecture and engine technology for an unspecified time, the FT says.

it's huge and has an "entry system" (one could hardly call them doors) to make the koeniggsegg look positively pedestrian!! Hopefully it would also do a gazillion miles per hour and run on vicks vapour rub.

Me likey.

Does anyone know if the next-gen 9-5 still expected this September?

pretty cool styling though, mind you for the money it should be.

Good luck to them

be nice if something similar to that aero X went into production as a saab sonnett ... even if it was just low volume ... with Koenigsegg now involved it might just happen?

If Saab finally made something like this instead of old mans cars then finally I would have to buy one and apprecaite how nice they are to drive, build quality, and the fact that it looks like the beefed up daddy of the CCR just makes things even better...

When can I put my order in?

Well you say nice to drive, when I drove a Saab 93 it was just like a vectra/boat going round corners... not cool

But hopefully now that might change.

The Koenigsegg looks lovely, a nice taut form follows function design. The other one I'm not so keen on and is very much shown up.

My first car was a 2-stroke Saab 96 which drank oil, but luurved snow.

White-stuff playtime in midwinter Kent was the absolute best.

Sad to say the car was wrecked by a nitwit collision specialist.

Now I'm (just a tad) older, another Saab could be good, so long as it ain't a reskinned Vectra.

So this automotive marriage looks hopeful...

It was also reported by the BBC that the Swedish Govt was not particularly eager to provide support for a foreign owned company but now that it looked as if it was reverting to Swedish ownership then they would.

What a contrast with the UK Govt which is more likely to provide help to a foreign owned company than a UK one.

was just thinking the same... who was working this deal out...???!!

GM giving money and loads of other stuff for free but when its about Opel/Vauxhaul they almost screw up the whole deal for no obvious reason and ask for stloads of extra money... WTF!?

I just hope Koenigsegg appreciate that (well, in my view at least) the essence of a good SAAB is:

Quirkiness
Comfort (possibly involving wood and leather)
A big turbo for amusing mid-range stonk
Some more quirkiness for good measure

Re-skinned vauxhalls or being just another competent but dull eurobox is not enough!

Any chance of getting Hi-Res desktop size images of this interesting match!

Does anyone else see similarities? especially in the roof-lines?
