Mk2 Tuscan Electrical Problem.

The Mk2 convertible I just bought has an electrical problem. (private sale)
When I turn the engine off and lock up, sometimes the the dash illumination stays on.
If I dont notice then I am sure to have a flat battery the next morning.
I keep having to dis-connect the battery when I park up for the night...........grrrrr.

Its realy random but fails more often than not.
Otherwise everthing functions correctly.

Could it be the display ECU ??? ₤350,- ???

Any comments welcome.

Seems to be getting very common om Mk2s - had the exact same issue and it needed the dash ecu fixing. Around £190 to fix it (incl carriage i think) plus labour

As a temp fix can't you set the illumination (BRIGHTNESS) to zero from the settings screen for no lights ON, becareful not to set contrast to zero 'cos then you can't see the setup screen... or turn your side lights on. You might need to play about with it, but easier than disconnecting the battery.

Assuming the battery is fully charged, check out the 3 ecu module's in the driver's footwell to the right of the loud pedal, door/window,dash and engine ecu, if damp/wet unplug them and dry out as best as possible.

On My MK2 Tuscan S the LCD remains on sometimes too but strangely I discovered a fix for it. When I press the footbrake the screen goes off - I'm not kidding !

I've already had my LCD fixed 3 times plus replacement dashboard ECU for other issues.

First off, all plugs are dry.
Like the idea to turn the illumination brightness down so not to disconnect battery.
Got my head down in the footwell disconnecting the ECU but discovered it was the Engine Management one ooops. All's well though, engine still starts after reconnecting.
Found the Door ECU but couldnt fing the Dash ECU.

Funny thing is the dash light went off when I was messing about down there.
I wonder if I pressed the brake pedal ???

Think I'll go and try the brake pedal solution.

It's at the side behind a velcroed on cover:-



It might not be fixed in position very well as orignal fixing is again velcro!

I saw the the ribbon cable. I'll follow it.

Anyway, now I know about the "brake method" I'm not sure if I need to take further action.
Is it a Dash ECU fault or is it an eltronics design fault ?

All, Heath Briggs at X-Works had a look at the LCD screen staying on problem and the feature of the brake pedal. He has replaced the relay with a different one and the problem with my screen has gone away.

It is easily curable if you can't be bothered pressing the footbrake anymore.
