Hey guys, my first post so go easy on me!
I have just sold my v8 vantage and i'm looking for something newer/better!

The budget is about 60-65k but could probably stretch to 70k for the perfect car.. obviously the 4.7 is out of the picture so i'm thinking about the N400 although the sportshift N400s seem to go for over 70k!

Can anyone shed any light on N400s and how they will depreciate compare to standard 4.3s and how limited they actually were?!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Barry, I had a similar decision as I could not quite streatch to a 4.7. I plumped for the SportShift, and I can say I find it excellent. I think you'd probably have to try both types and decide which you prefer.

They made 240 N400 coupes and 240 N400 Roadsters worldwide in one of 3 colours unique to the N400, Bergwerk Black, Lightening Silver and Karussell Orange.

Allegedly they made 480 in total because this is the number of seconds in 8 minutes, the time taken to lap the Nürburgring.

The N400s were fitted with a lot of the available optional extras as standard, and included some features unique to this edition. These include sill extensions, clear rear lamp lenses (a-la DBS, albeit with a "Magnum silver" coloured insert) "Magnum silver" coloured grills for the lower grill, bonnet and side vents.
Inside they have black perforated leather seats, a numbered plaque and a micro-spin alloy (look) facia trim. The Nürburgring motif also features as a stitched logo on the center arm rest and as a badge next to the Vantage on the rear.

the non-cosmetic changes were a Sports Pack comprising lightweight graphite-finished aluminium wheel with diamond turning, up-rated springs and dampers and a new rear anti-roll bar (not the roadster).

Also there were upgrades to the engine, raising peak power from 380bhp to 400bhp, and maximum torque from 409Nm to 420Nm.

BTW, most of these items are now available as retrofit parts.

N400's are great, but if you can go to £70k you aren't far off a 4.7 coupe, official dealer prices start at £74k prior to any negotiation, so worth considering.

thanks for the info! i know the n400 is a very special car but im not sure how much of a premium i should be paying over a standard 4.3!
i would love a sportshift but i've never seen a sportshift n400 for under 70k so it would have to be a standard one!

Anyone got any opinions on sportshift vs manual? what will be better for resale two years down the line?!

thanks again,
Barry

Personally I prefer the SS on my N400 over the manual that was on my '06 V8V. It takes some getting used to but once you learn to drive it properly it is superb.

No idea of resale value but then I doubt mine will ever be going ... it's one of only 26 Karussell Orange cars out of the 480 N400s made ....

Grant i can see what you are saying but i doubt these dealers will be willing to negotiate! i was thinking that the n400s and the 4.7 will depreciate at the same rate if not the n400 will depreciate less?!

ps. that is really as high as i can take the budget but might have a look at a few 4.7s! If anyones thinking of selling their car then please let me know!

It's hard to say, but personally I don't think the N400 will depreciate less than the 4.7. In the early years (1-4/5 years old) I'd have thought it would depreciate somewhere between the values of a 4.3 and a 4.7, all other things being equal. After that, I'd imagine there would be little difference between any of them other than age related.

That being said, the 4.7 is preferred by buyers to the 4.3 and is available in fewer numbers, partly due to it's introduction at the beginning of the implosion of the banking indusrty. That helps keep prices firmer. It also depends on what Aston Martin do in the future with the V8 Vantage in terms of styling/engine updates.

I used to have a limited edition Land Rover Defender (50th Anniversary) and that held it's value remarkably well, being worth about twice the value of a similar age/condition "ordinary" defender. The difference is that the "50th" Defender offered a 4.0 V8 engine and automatic gearbox which was just not available otherwise. If you wanted, you could pretty much "build" your own N400 using parts from Aston Martin.

In terms of SportShift vs Manual, it's down to personal choice. I test drove a Manual car before buying the SportShift. Again, I don't think that will make much of a difference in terms of resale. There will be people who want a Manual, and those who want a SportShift, same as when it was new.
