advice needing on speeding offence?
Discussion
well i had a great weekend and met some cool people over in le mans, however on the way back i was stopped for speeding (220km in a 130 km) just past rouen, and was fined 750 euros and i was told i couldn't drive my car any more even though i was on my own. i only got back last night because i needed to get someone from england to drive my car back as i didn't know anyone in france. after i paid the fine and they said i could leave they gave me a court date back in france in september?
does anyone know if you are banned in france your banned in the uk as this is a major problem for me as i drive hgv for a living? they have taken my licence (originals) off me. i have no previous convictions and the road conditions were good with no traffic?

If they take your licence when do you get it back?! They're not allowed to ban you from driving in England, do you get it in the post?

Comes back with a receipt for any money you paid, and what appears to be the result of the French court case??? - anyway I got an additional fine and a 2 week driving ban for France. Never paid the fine and have never heard from them again.

Did not go to court case, details got sent through the post some months later. The ban has obviously expired. There was no follow up letters or anything on the additional fine.
Have not been stopped since, so don't know how they would retain records of outstanding fines?
Whatever the case it should not affect you in UK.

We got done last year on the way out of le mans up towards alencon. Was 750 euro on the spot fine, said we couldn't drive the car back, but eventually said we could and gave us a "special piece of paper". They took the licence and it came back in the post a week or two later with a 6 week ban in france. You won't get banned in England or anything. It can go to the court and they can double the fine to 1500 euro and at most some kind of sentence, but I sincerely doubt that will happen.
Stayed off the main route this time and took all the back roads, but still got a fine! Luckily was only 90 euros this time. It was just coming out of flers, single carriageway opened into dual, overtook two cars and then 50m ahead of us a crazy gendam ran into the road! It's a bloody good job we have good brakes otherwise would have hit him, only stopped a few feet away. Plus the two cars we had just overtaken had to swerve out of the way, it was rediculously dangerous...

One thought about not bothering with the court or any additional fine is the worry about what may happen next time you go through French passport control... they scan your passport and all of a sudden a load of hypothetical sirens go off and red lights start flashing!
What ever punishment they give, I would personally humbly pay up and try to not get caught next time.

Just out of interest...
I have licenses from 2 countries, if stopped could I surrender my non-UK license and keep the other as backup?
I presume not, and if caught would be in a fair bit of trouble! Also, I guess the insurance would be based upon my UK license, so would be driving 'on' it.

You actually pass French passport control in the UK at Dover ferry terminal, they must wait and pounce on you on the other side! What ever punishment they give, I would personally humbly pay up and try to not get caught next time.
