Stuck at Glasgow waiting for our flight home which left LHR 45 mins late. Doesn't seem to be any thunder storm activity according to the web.

All the flights look 30-45 mins late.

So why am I stuck here? frown

I'm about 5 miles from Heathrow and although it's a bit cloudy/windy, there's no massive storms here yet.
A specific airline problem or an eariler issue with a plane? just a thought - or is everything late getting in?

Probably just an earlier problem knocking on down the line. Used to happen to me a lot when I was heading back to Edinburgh from Heathrow at the end of the day once a week.

Pug, I regularly see a plane boarded and ready to go at Heathrow, only to then sit waiting for a slot 45 minutes later. It's the summer silly season starting. As soom as they build the third runway the better.

If they've had low visibility/fog at any point today then the procedures change and things will get delayed with a knock-on effect due to the traffic levels at Heathrow. That's just one possibility. Equipment unserviceabilities can slow things down as well, or an unauthorised infringement of the control zone around the airport by a light aircraft can stop movements completely.

Lots of possible explanations, and when you consider that Heathrow bashes out close to one departure a minute with monotonous regularity, you can see how little room there is to make up lost time.

Whichever it might be, you can bet it's a ball-ache for both of these offices:

Yep, LHR is in danger of getting left behind by other airports in terms of capacity.

It's getting taxed to death too, also with the extended range of todays aircraft, the likes of Dubai will just get bigger and bigger.
