Sorry for sounding a bit anal but this topic has been covered a gazillion times over! Do the search on this!

I have a 4200 Spyder and having spoken to other owners, the running costs vary amazingly depending on how it is driven/how well it has been looked after in the past etc.

One major lesson I have learnt is that even tho this kind of car is "cheap" to buy but the running/maintenance/parts costs can be eye watering if you think you can buy it and run it for peanuts!

Sorry if this has come across a bit strong but don't be lazy and do a search on this forum or check out Maserati life forum.

Rant over.

maseratiforum.co.uk is also worth a look - lots of UK guys on there. There are a few recognised indy's which reduce the running costs quite a bit but you are still looking at ~2-3k/year all in

£1k to £5k pa on servicing depending on where you go and whether the brakes/clutch need doing. Reckon on an average of about £2k and you should be fine. They are cheap because servicing is expensive relative to the purchase price but they are stronger than you think and the depreciation on an 03/04 car will be low so the whole life running costs are acceptable. Go get one!

Tyres £400 - £800
Service up to £2000 Annual service + Mileage service.(Indy prices) (If you want to do things by the book)
Incidentals could be any amount, You will be lucky if a visit to the workshop will cost less than £1k.

I would make sure you budget about £2k a year for keeping it on the road, and have another 2K stashed away ready to give to an Indy.

The above is about right.
I budget 2k in servicing, 500-1000 for tyres, 1000 for insurance and have a slush fund just in case.
This year might get pricey as I need new pads, discs and a tubi.....

I would also recommend a warranty (I am not that brave to go without), and include in the annual costs (£1500-2500pa). A number of companies will provide, and could provide you will sleep at night! I've had significant work done on both my Massers (3200GT and GranSport), luckily covered under warranty...

I forgot to add the warranty. Decent one works out at about £100 per month.

Anyone know what pad depth (ex the metal base) the warning light comes on at? A main dealer quoted me £1350 for new front pads and discs but the front pads have quite a few mm left on them and the discs seem fine to me.

PS I was talking about servicing costs alone when I mentioned £2k pa - ie not tyres but in the scheme of things these are quite cheap.

The real stinger is a big service (say the 31k one with spark plugs etc) where a lot of the inspection items (fuel cans, lamda sensors, aux belt, air con filter/gas, geometry etc) actually need replacing and the brakes and clutch are cooked then that one is £6k+ at a main dealer! Then there are switchable dampers and suspension bushes etc etc. Still worth it though...

With the greatest respect, you would be mad to pay a dealer that!

I might try this place for my next service, I have heard good things.
