I am looking to buy a 1999/2000 GT3 next year. Is anything to look out for on these cars apart from the fact that a majority will have done a good number of trackdays and will have been used enthusiastically?

I read somewhere that the brakes on the mark 1 GT3 were not up to the performance though I find that hard to believe as this is proberbly one of the most popular trackday cars.

I have only driven Mk2 on track, but apparently Mk1 brakes ARE substandard in the track braking dept.

They are regularly upgraded.

Main advice will be getting car thoroughly inspected and checked over. No point giving generalisations as the cars are relatively rare and use will vary from garage queen to track slag. Inspect, purchase, enjoy

Look for pink brakes - the red calipers turn pink with extensive track use due to the heat - this will indicate a hard driven car with lots of track abuse!

Did the GT3 not come with the option of those gorgeous YELLOW calipers (the Cermaic brakes) ?

If there was a question on the braking performance, especially on well used examples, would the premium of the yellow calipers be worth it?

The Mk2 came with the option, not sure the Mk1 did.

I have heard that ceramic brakes have had problems on track and are not advised.

If you buy a Mk1 just get a decent aftermarket brake pack from AP/Brembo etc or fit the Mk2 six pots. They should fit without much modification. If using the car on the road it probably won't be an issue.
