2 of my wheels are hopelessly reshaped so I'm in need of a new setup. Was thinking of going to a 16" rim simply so that I'll be able to get decent street rubber in the futuer as the 14" selection for 205/60 isn't real good even now. Does anybod have any suggestions on what offsets work on a stock 280i. Closest I can find is in the 35mm offset range versus the 23mm that is stock so I'm assuming a spacer would be needed. What about going with a 7.5 or an 8 inch wide wheel? Has anybody done this without major rubbing issues. Also would love to see some pics of aftermarket wheels as I've never been the bling type when it came to wheels.

Thanks!

My old 400 had 17 x 8 Azev alloys, 235 Toyo's fitted. There was some rubbing on full lock, but not bad.

Ride was a little compromised due to the low profiles.

Some after market wheels look good on Wedges - some don't. Obviously i didn't mind these wheels but i do prefer the standard Oz wheels.

the bigger you go, the more load you get on the suspension parts...which arent made to cope with such monster wheels.

also the original setup of the car was not developed for using such "oversized" wheels.

they look nice but a ggod compromise between the original size and a "bit" bigger will be the best, especially as the original tyre size isnt available anymore from a good tyre brand.

Yeah I'm not looking to go bigger at all unless I need to for the right offset. I already own a hill climb car, no need to have 2 cars which need 10 inch wide tiressmile.

I'm just looking for what offsets have worked for others in the past when they went with aftermarket wheels.

The standard cross spoke type wheels are available in 15" as fitted to the later 350's etc. There are a few decent tyres available in this size including Toyo's. Unfortunately you can't get hold of SO2's any more. Cheers Steve

Theres a company on Ebay called px-wheels who have all types of Tasmin wheels, they send you a full set of refurbished wheels that you swap for your old ones to send back, but they have got to be the same type. Cost about £240 which i didn't think was to bad although i havent used them myself

SE 15 x 8 wheels will fit the MK1 Tasmins, just need to re-profile the forward end of the front wheel arch slightly to stop rubbing when on lock.

Remember, I'm across the pond so shipping 15" rims which I'll still have issues with decent street tread options isn't really an option. Race rubber-fine, junk rubber-fine. My 14s aren't reusable so trading them in isn't an option either.
