Getting a fair amount of condensation in my lights after wet driving, so planning to take the light pods off and remove the glass (perspex) covers to clean them out over the weekend.

Had the top tip (thanks Rob) about bunging a little silica gel in the pod but has anyone got some recommendations for ...

- the type of sealant I should use when putting it all back together?

- what I should use to remove the old sealant?

- anything to do to help the sealant bond with the (polished) paintwork on the outside?

Good luck with that.

The way they are fitted means you will have to remove the WHOLE light unit to remove the perspex cover, the whole lot is stuck in with sikaflex, not silicon.
So it is a cutting job. I would suggest leaving the light unit in, if at all possible, if you just remove the actual lights then you can get your hand in to clean the perspex.

If you do take the perspex out, sika flex or tigerseal ( or any of the quality polyurethane) sealant is what is prefered, and then use panel wipe to clean of the excess when still wet.
Also dont worry about it sticking to the shiny paint, it sticks like sh*t to a blanket.

I had this problem on the Ultima , sorted it by drilling 2 small vent holes in the bottom corners from the back , found it ventilated the unit and kept the lenses clear .

I was just going to suggest this - but dry it out with a hairdrier

then reseal the whole unit so it is airtight
