American Speed LS7 - dyno result
Discussion
My AS engine is built and dyno'd and Gail will ship it is a week or so.
More than enough power for me, I think !

Regards
Edited:- Graph has not come out well, but it's peak HP is 605 at 6000 rpm and the torque is between 560 and 575 between 4000 and 5400 rpm.

Well done, interesting, but what has been done in the build so that you get 605 horses?
I don't know exactly - Gail said this to me in an e-mail:-"Your LS7 was the best yet, making a little over 600 hp. You can owe it all to my EFI tuner."
Beyond that, I can't say - as I said, it's more than enough for me !!

Give the gent's at A/S a break! ...........a 600hp LS7 isn't unrealistic.
If you consider many owners are running N/A SBC's at a true 500-550HP, which were originally basic 250hp mules..... surely the stock 500HP LS7 tweaked up to 600 should in comparison be regarded as quite a modest gain?

Out of interest how do they get this extra power from an engine that's rated by GM at 500 ponies or thereabouts? Do GM hold it back for emmissions or is available because of a better exhaust system? Is the engine modified internally, cam change perhaps?
The reason I wonder is because when the LS6 came out I bought a new one as well as a 'custom' mapped ecu and harness from the US which was claimed to make extra power. The engine went onto an engine dyno and was run in for 8 hours. Then, despite everything that was done to the intake and exhaust it could only muster up 5 hp less then the GM figure.

I suspect race gas, lots of ignition timing and a few correction factor tweaks are in regular attendance at many overseas dyno sessions!
But to respond to your post Boost, the 'LS1 tech' guru's share quite a few simple mods to N/A LS' series engines.
Personally I thrive on the challenge and results from the old SBC/cams/carbs route but sadly there comes a time when you have to admit defeat and accept some new technology......LS3's on the engine stands next week!

This is from your website isn't it......."Due to demand we now offer a 625 bhp (appx) turnkey Chevrolet ls7 engine package for the Ultima which costs appx £15'000. This includes the engine harness, fly by wire pedal assembly, pcm and a host of engine modifications."
How do YOU do it ?

^ It's fully modded inside with lots of fancy parts
You may have misunderstood me. I'm asking if it's a standard engine or modified internally as somebody up top credits the efi tuner but I doubt it's all in the tune. Have they told you if they've modified it, cam, lifters, valvetrain etc?
I'm not asking for any specifics but just changing the headers and tweaking the ecu wouldn't release to many horses if you see what I mean.

Yes - I see what you mean - sorry , I misunderstood.

I'll be honest and say that I don't know exactly what they do to the engine - I was recommended to use Gail by Richard at the factory, and I have had a very good experience with the process so far. As I said in my earlier post, the power will be more than enough for me, so I will leave it to other people to debate the numbers !

My LS7 was dynoed by Jeff at 565hp with completely stock internals and standard tune GM ECU. The gains over the Z06 standard 505hp come from the increased flow through the exhausts.
My 565hp seems to compare virtually identically to similar LS7 installs and I'd be suprised if tuning alone can then provide an extra 40hp over that. The closed loop fuel control used as standard adjusts the injector durations to maintain perfect fuel combustion (Lambda 1.00) so surely any adjustment from that must overfuel or underfuel the engine?
However, there are so many tunable parameters that maybe the ignition timing is improved/advanced or other parameter changed to make it possible..though maybe at the expense of reliability?
Sounds wonderful anyway!
