I'm looking to trade my Cerb for a MKII Tuscan but while looking at some of the adds there appears to be two different dash types.

One appears to have dials (speedo and rev) while others have a different (more padded) steering wheel and all the heater controls directly below the radio rather than lower down.

I am right, are there two types? Whats the difference if any?

Thanks

I think the Mk11 Convertible is different than the Targa top.
Convertible has the dials. See photo.

I think some of the last few targas had the convertible style dials as well, both work well but the earlier MKII dash with the vent under the steering wheel can prove uncomfortable for some people as the vent gets in the way of legs and one female friend wont drive theirs as she cant sit right.

More padded version is digital only with only one change up light when the whole unit turns red and it can prove difficult to read on sunny days especially with top off.the other unit is dials and digital display combined and is shared with T350,Tamora and Sagaris and does allow you to use dials when bright and you can also programme one of the digital screens to your preference, should have been able to do that with the digital only version but didnt happen.hope that helps

The convertible dash in Mark2 Targas came in around Sept'05 (when the convertible became available) , it's often refered to as the Mk3 and a lot of the dashboard electrics/electronics are much improved and more reliable (well that's the theory).

Think the 'MK3' Targas with the convertable dash came out about January 06.There are not many of them around.

So is the MK II a digital one and used on earlier MK II cars and MK III anologue version on later MK II cars as well as convertables?

To the best of my knowledge yes Dickie but we all know how TVR would use whatever they had to get a car out of the door and some cars also seemed to sit unregistered for a while,as with most purchases best bet is to look at the ones you like and buy on condition not on which dash it has IMHO

The all digital pod/periscope type dash has more user screen's, about 6 in all, the later digital/analogue effort fitted to the T2 vert/late T2 Targa's has only 2 user screen's, and differ from the type fitted to Sag/T350/Tam, almost information overload, you'll never get bored in a traffic jam again! nerd

I prefer the look of the later type dash and analogue dials. However looking at some ads I've seen several Targa cars 57/58 reg with the older digital instruments. Do I take it, as these were finished after the factory closed, that any parts available were used.

A response to the subject of the comment (having experienced the unreliability of the dash electronics, not a comment on your comment - and it's noober not nober!

Thanks for the updates.

On the MK II dash between the stereo and the steering wheel there are 3 small knobs - what are they for??

Also the MK II - were the standard cars 3.6 and the S version 4.0?

The small knobs are Volume, Brightness, and, Contrast for the dash warning buzzer and display.

The Mk2 came in three choices the 3.6, 4.0, and, 4.0S.

If anyone is interested, I wrote an 'Owners Handbook' for the round dial dash. Well, it developed into a Cabin Controls Handbook. I did this because the Owner's Handbook with the car was for the standard Mk 2 Tuscan dash and controls which are totally different to teh ones in my car.

The 2-dial dash is basically the same as in the Tamora, T-350 and Sagaris, though some of the LCD screens and the warning codes are a bit different.

You can download a copy of the handbook from here :
