Shelving / storage ideas for Books/DVDs/CDs

Once I add a partition wall to my seperate my lounge and dining room, I'm going to have a wall about 2.5m long, with a post on one side and the existing wall on the other side that I intend to use for storage of books, DVDs, CDs.

So, I'm looking for ideas for shelving that will span 2.5m without sagging, and any lighting ideas. We (will) have Oak wood floors and a brown/cream theme

What sort of width of shelves are you looking for mate? If its just for books etc then you could get 145 x 35mm dressed redwood. Fairly substantial and looks good either varnished or painted?

The recess is about 30cm deep, so anything less than about 26cm for the depth.
