Hi,

i LOVE steak, i mean, really love it. But after spending the summer in canada and bits and bats in america, our uk steaks are just so bland, even our highly rated steaks just dont have the taste and texture of an average steak in the states.

i've some research and i've come i've discovered that our steaks are grass fed (plus god knows what else) whereas american cows are fed on grain/corn. Does anyone know anywhere you can buy cornfed steak in the uk. ideally to be delivered, or in leeds/yorkshire?

Thanks,

Nick

A lot of steakhouses in the US and the majority of the best ones import their beef from Argentina, where it is fed on grass.

Most beef in the UK isn't hung for long enough. Go somewhere like Porterford's in the City and they should be able to sort you out with a good, if not exactly cheap steak, like:

Mainly because mainstream British consumers are thick.

As MC says, steak isnt hung properly in the UK, dark, marbled meat is regarded as unappetising to the consumer. So its difficult to find as most people dont understand the joy within.

Find a great butcher and you'll have the keys to great steak.

If you come across it try the Wagyu, its fabulous as a treat.

corn actually isnt a great feed for cows. It gets them fat fast, but grass-fed (as in Argentina and Scotland) is the way forward smile

Hi Nick: Just finished a nice big T-bone with filly.... Now I have to go relax if you know what I mean..Don't have the energy to read any more of this thread but I hope you find what you are looking for. By the way rib eye on the BBQ tomorrow night. We can just about throw a rock from our front door and hit what we will be eating in the near future.

You can't buy US beef in the EU (yet) - it's banned because they pump their cattle full of growth hormones. The cattle the Yanks slaughter are so fat they look like naive art paintings in comparison to what's raised in Europe.
