New front discs .....no bells ??

Just had my new grooved AP front discs delivered from Questmead and they have only sent the discs on there own ,no bells or new bolts is this right ?? seems alot of money to pay considering you have to refit the old bells and bolts !!!

Is it safe re-useing the bolts ?? must admit bit dissapointed !!!

yep thats it simon .the old ap nuts and bolts are ap specific.i had some stainless steel ones made at work was an expensive excercise and took ages to mill em .i am in the process of making some bells in chrome as i did on the cossie

Paid £350 for them , ordered 1x set front brake discs grooved , never had a situation before were they have not sent bells .
Is it ok to re-use the bolts ??

If you bought brake discs then it should include the bells as what they have sent you is just the rotors... however AP rotors this size will be around £150 new each so I suspect its just the rotors you have bought... Id expect the bells to be £100 each!

I would say that you got what you ordered, you are supposed to use new fasteners, they come in a kit from AP

Discs are discs, bells are bells and fastener pack is fastener pack.

Why would you routinely replace the bells with the discs?

Furthermore, the AP bolts are Grade 12.9 hardened bolts, and stainless is way too brittle as a substitute. Bells to discs should be AP or aircraft spec (e.g. ARP) 12.9 bolts.

Don,t see any reason to replace the bells but i would feel happier if the bolts are replaced , not to worry thanks for the replies . Simon

Point is that unless you are used to building up split peice brakes it would be very easy to get less than what you were expecting.

A Brake rotor is the American word for a brake disc.

Yep, Peter is spot on there, they need to be replaced when you change your discs. The bolt sets are circa £14.00 per pack, and for some odd reason, AP still use imperial fasteners for this.

AP probably don't know he's asking for the info.. He could always call them and ask them

BTW, not floating. And, IIRC, bolts 20mm, but that's not a guaranteed answer.

No! if they were floating discs they would use bobbins instead of bolts.
