Something triggered a memory this afternoon and I have been racking my brains trying to remember...

I used to live in North London - Edgware as a kid 30 odd years ago. I remember going with the parents of friends to an RAF base somewhere in North London (North of Edgware at least and no more than 20 - 30 minutes away).

I recall that there was a Lightning on display as you went into the base (that was all shutterboard clad huts). As far as I recall there was no runway.

Does anyone know what this place was or if it is still there?

Cheers

RAF Halton is near Aylesbury and I don't think it has a runway?

RAF Uxbridge is near Heathrow and has no runway. Is it that one?

Aylesbury is too far and Uxbridge is too west. It was an active base - wooden clad huts that I think were dark grey/black and the lightning tilting slightly nose upwards with the intakes filled in with red covers.

Any ideas?

Not High Wycombe was it?

I think there used to be Lightning there, now no longer there.

or West Drayton.
