Unfortunately the clutch fork arm are a well known weakness.

The fork bends or the slave cylinder push rod goes through the fork... you press clutch and slave cylinder push rod has gone through fork ... it wont return back so when you press next time...slave cylinder only travels 50% ish and bottoms out..with master cylinder feeling solid under foot.

bugger! hoping it wasnt that, took the slave off this morning and the rod came out with it, so i stuck a screw driver in to see if i could move the fork with that and it was having none of it and it seemed as though there was quite a lot of travel before it touched and when it did there was no movement in the fork so it would seem that its bent! any suggestions as how best to remedy this? i.e. would it be easier to take the gear box or the engine out? my plan was gear box as i only need to be in the gearbox bell housing in theory? the vehicle has had a recent clutch so that should be fine in theory. also is it a common thing for them to bend so suddlenly? as i only seemed to press the clutch once and it buggered up! many thanks for the reply by the way!

for anyone thats interested, it turned out to be a colapsed release bearing when i stripped it down, so im in the process of replacing the clutch, the bearing, the pressure plate and the slave cylinder while the gearbox is moved back so hopefully no more problems for a while!!!
