Today I ordered my new bike through the cycle to work scheme. Can't wait I have gone for the Cannondal BAD BOY 8.
Should be perfect for my Clapham to London bridge commute.
Anybody got experience of these lefty fork things, are they style over substance?

No experience, but I do think they are style over substance. Use it until it breaks then get a traditional fork.

the lefty is a good fork, lightweight and certainly wont break on a commuter bike thats for sure. you can ignore comments like "replace it when it breaks"..... and to be honest, I have never heard of them "breaking" at all, just stories that when it gets rough they struggle to react quick enough and handling becomes vague and unmanageable. i guess thats why thy are really best suited to the xc range.

you'll have no worries, trust me.

a lot of people appear to be replacing the alfine hub and going single speed though as the hub is quite weighty

I'll get my cycling legs back first, then consider the switch.

Well here I go.

Leftys, are bloody greatr forks. The later ones in particular, are very good.

There not a replacement for a Boxxer or 888... but on a light Marathon bike they make a lot of sense.

They are light, very stiff, tunable, and very reliable. Very cleverly made too - the stantion is a hexagonal section, which slides on about 4 inches of needle roller bearings on each face. Very smooth.
