Hi

I recently got the front right bushings replaced on my 05 E60 BMW 535d. She has doen 65k miles. She was rattling a bit.

Anyway, after that the rattle was still there and then I needed to get the front arm replaced. BMW did not have a genuine one so I had to go for an aftermarket (new) one. Anyway, after this the rattle was gone but I have this odd noise now when I brake the car. At "higher" speeds, when I brake, there is a slight wabble in the steering, but not all the time. Then when I brake lightly to bring the car to a stop, there is a creaking/scoring type of noise as if there was a bend in the disc or as if the bushings in the new arm is faulty. It's odd and highly embarrasing around town.

My meachanic says the disc is warped, BUT this never happened before I got the arm in. Sure there are a wear signs on the disc, but the brake pads have 15k miles left on them.

Wondering if anyone else had this issue? A mate says that he has seen this before and to bring it to BMW as they have some way of checking this stuff out. Last time I went to BMW they charged me £150 for nothing!

Any help is appreciated!

It is commonly known thing to try and avoid pattern suspension parts on a 5 series, they will invariably cause you more grief than they save you in cash.

I nearly bought a set of "other brand" rear suspension mount bushes on my e39 but my mechanic said NO, get proper lemfoerder ones (yes it's spelt wrong).

Can't help with your wobble though.

I had a slight shimmy in the steering wheel under braking that seemed to be a warped disc on my old 52 plate E46 330Ci.

Was proved correct and replacement cured it - car had only done about 40k IIRC.
Can't remember cost though.
