Do they actually work? Honestly?
If so, how?

Imo, they only work when there's an end in sight.
For example, if you're going to be distance for a year say, then back in the same place after that.
Otherwise you just get frustrated, in all ways!

yes, provided both parties are too scared/deluded to leave.

I friend of mine has been in a relationship with a girl he met in canada for about 5 years now, i'd imagine he's actually been with her for about 30-40% of that time.

She's his first proper girlfriend so obviously finds it hard to let go, the girl thinks she can't do better.

He's planning to move out there and marry her next year, I give it 6 months tops.

I bet she's banging like a carpenter with parkinsons whilst he's over here in love.

No you moron, why the hell would you want to - the point of life is to shag as much as possible, long distance relationships involve no shagging and hence offend the gods, if you do this, you will catch "the ghey". Man up and move on

Even those suffering from severe cases of gay have been known to indulge in the sexytime. In their own way.

My housemate was in a relationship with a girl as of sept last year, he lives in London, she lives in Chicago. He has been out there once for a month, she has been here for 2 weeks, he asked her to marry him, she said yes, he moves over there for ever in a year.

Done.

But in the real world, with people that are not slightly odd and naive (she's 21, hes 27) I think it would be very hard.

the answer is:

it depends. HTH.

with the ex: we met each other, started dating after a month, then 3 weeks later she moved 200 miles away. it lasted 2.5yrs which i'd say was good going, and we're still close friends.

problem was when situations changed. my opportunities to move nearer her disintegrated and as she got a better job/more money had more of a social life. we both saw the writing on the wall at that point, it wasn't a surprise when we had that talk.

just one of those things. having done it once, she'd have to be miss perfect to do it again. its not a 'proper' relationship and you can feel a right bd when she needs you and you can't be there.
