FOTA grand prix weekend....

Just my suggestions and it will need some tweeking. I think that a "new" F1 would have a real opportunity to get closer to the fans and improve the "at the circuit" experience. Lets face it a GP weekend is a significant investment for a spectator.

Friday

AM
2 hours testing session. Unlimited number of tyres and up to 3 cars per team.

PM
First F1 practise session with nominated drivers of one hour. Team could swap drivers over the previous event from the 3 that take part in AM testing. Restricted number of tyres for the weekend starts counting from this session.

Support series practise sessions. (WTCC, local F3, one make series, GP masters???)

Saturday

AM
F1 drivers + reserves + celebs race in Toyota Yaris or another road car from one of supporting manufacturers. Not SL500's but something more run of the mill.

Support series qualifying.

F1 second practise of 1 hour.

PM
F1 qualifying with points for pole position. 1 hr unrestricted laps but within the tyre allocation.

F1 reserve drivers one lap shoot out for a cash prize to nominated charity.

As all the engine manufacturers also make at least one small cinq/yaris/smart etc sized car, you could make the support race run as a genuine team event

Could probably be run like the yamaha R6 cup was run. One team prepping all the cars to exact same spec ensuring driver ability and entertainment.

I love it - this is just what the FIA and The Midget have missed. Your ideas would be great for the fans and I would be happy to pay the reduced entry ticket that FOTA will introduce to watch this.

I like the idea of a team race in the manufacturers road cars for added spectacle. This is not about dumming down F1, it's about providing a full days activities to the race fans, making the team race a charity one would keep everyone happy.

The hard core F1 is still at the centre of the weekend, me likes it alot.

I bet Flav would be happy with this too as he's always been a strong voice for giving more back to the fans...

Wouldn't there be too much risk of an F1 driver getting injured in such a race and thus not being able to start the GP.

An alternative - given that the teams have at least on spare car at each race, plus their test driver - why not a sprint race on the Saturday afternoon for test drivers only

Add in a BTCC type open paddock time, with all the drivers available for autographs, photo's etc.

^^^^^^ Sorry didn't make myself clear on that. The one make F1 drivers race is purely for entertainment value so same spec/prep is the way forward.

Can't get F1 drivers signed to promote Renaults (for example) suddenly promoting Toyota.

Apart from that, some nice ideas.

More realistically Formula Renault 3.5/Renault Megan Coupe & Formula BMW will make an appearence I suspect as will some hastily cobbled together Merc & Ferrari based activities. 599/360 CS race & a DTM-styled Merc race anybody?

friday afternoon i would have 15 minute superkart race for all the race and reserve drivers. prize money to charity of drivers choice.

One thing I'd like to see would be (ducks and runs) 3 or 4 endurance races. 4-6 hours of FOTA racing with guest drivers and young talent mixing it with the regulars on the grid. Obviously there would need to be driver changes but I think it could be interesting to see the likes of Walter Rohl doing a stint against Michael Schumacher, Lewis & Jenson.

Yes. With a sprint (reserve) race drivers championship but the constructors points add to the constructors points from the main event...
