Stranglers played a lot of their old stuff, failed spectacularly to interact with the crowd and mechanically went through their set as quickly as politely possible. One song encore.
They were very very average compared with when I saw them 30 years ago.

They encored with No More Heroes, and did lots of their old singles, Peaches, Something Better Change, 5 Minutes, Duchess,
Grip, spring to mind immediately. On stage for 75 minutes which was slightly shorter than when I saw them in November.
Support band were Twisted Wheel from Manchester - named after a dance hall.
From memory the three main Northern Soul dancehalls were Wigan Casino, The Twisted Wheel in Manchester and The Torch in Stoke on Trent,in the 70's. (Incidently that's when I first saw the Stranglers)
Grip, spring to mind immediately. On stage for 75 minutes which was slightly shorter than when I saw them in November.
Support band were Twisted Wheel from Manchester - named after a dance hall.
From memory the three main Northern Soul dancehalls were Wigan Casino, The Twisted Wheel in Manchester and The Torch in Stoke on Trent,in the 70's. (Incidently that's when I first saw the Stranglers)
They were pretty awesome. Played nearly everything (with the exception of Go Buddy Go and Something Better Change) and did No More Heroes as an encore.
I felt that the crowd failed to connect with them and so couldn't really blame them for going through the motions a little at times - maybe too many youngsters there...
I never got to see them back in the day, but really enjoyed this. Out of the 600 hueres du Mans that I have witnessed the hour spent watching the men in black was perhaps one of the most enjoyable.
And let's remember, Jet's seventy now...

They seemed to be enjoying it, mainly did their old numbers and chucked a couple of later ones in as anyone would who is trying to shift sales of their stuff and yes they did do a one song encore but that was ok as the rest of the set was long enough.
I will certainly go and see them again.

I guess my lot were a bit worse for beer 
Meanwhile I was in Le mans town centre giving locals joy rides in the Viper

for the Stranglers here. Was right at the front in the 'mosh pit'. Started with about a dozen french lads and girls pogoin and bouncing off each other and it spread to a hundred or so by the encore. Bloody knackered by the end . Forgot how many songs i knew , thought they where excellent.. Twisted wheel not bad either, one to watch out for??

They did Peaches, the song I was looking forward to the most, when I was at the bar trying to get served but other than that I thought they were great! They did do most of their hits but they didn't do 96 Tears, unless I missed it, which was the only minor disappointment on what was an otherwise cracking night! Grip, spring to mind immediately.
