Its been a while but its time for a Bi22le question!

Still dreaming of a BEC and now thinking that I will have two set ups to the car. One is cruising - Large front screen, no bash hat and low cruising speeds. general driving on a nice day or with the lady. Two is fast or track - small bubble (I think its called) screen, bash hat and a lot higher average speed!
My concern is that when you have the bash hat on I would like to have my crash helmet wired in. This way I can plum in an intercom, phone hands free and mp3 set up. Has any one done this before? Any considerations. I would be able to carry out all the work myself and can fabricate some sort of holding for the phone on mp3 player. I will even be able to get three sources of sound sensibly into the lid with out too much wiring ( 1 plug) and confusion. Just think it would be a nice touch and a small bit of comfort.
Thanks for your answers in advance.
PS if your going to Brands to watch 750 and take your kit car I may be the one having a look at it in the car park, come say hi!

Even with a helmet wired for sound; I can't help thinking that you're missing the point if you are concerned about listening to music and talking on the phone whilst in a BEC. An intercom might be useful though.

An Autocom system will do all that for no work at all and if you can find somewhere selling an old model you can pick up a good bargain. Its what the bike instructors use. Me and SWMBO use it in our BEC for long journeys to chat and have music. I use it if I use the BEC on the A3 to get to work every now and then for some tunes - 8000 rpm gets a tad waring after a while and theres no sensible alternative blat route frown). £100 should get you 2 sets of headsets/mike and the box with 3 headset inputs(one radiolink) and 3 inputs for mp3, phone and satnav; all with noise cancelling for when you speak over it.

cheers for the replies. Hobzy is your mic / speaker built into your skid lid? I take it you don't have to put your melon saver on then stuff the mic down the side? Do you like my names for a coconut cocoon? Any other funny names?

Yep,the Autocom ones are good. When we tour Europe some of our group have them and link up the CB's, phones, MP3 et al. I used to have one but sold it when i lost the Fury, I found my cheap Sparco intercom from demon-tweeks (no phone inputs, just helmet-to-helmet) gave louder / clearer voices. But it is all to do with how you set the earpieces into the helmet, they must be spot-on. Lately i have just been putting one earpiece from my i-phone in, to take calls and listen to music. But with 12,000rpm of R1 up front, you need it LOUD!!!! My wife justs puts her i-phone on for the journey. She lost her crash helmet 3 weeks ago just outside Calais, she had it on her lap as blazing sunshine, lifted it into the airflow accidently why getting comfy and the 80mph sucked it up and smashed it all over the motorway!!!! The R400 caterham behind and GTM Libra darted out the way!

Google "Bass Monster" helmet speakers. I had a pair in my two stroke bike (RD50, TZR125, RG250) days. Haven't found anything that comes near them since (and I used to own the UK's loudest Mini).

biggrin

It all goes in before hand, behind the lining. I tend to unclip the mike from the loom inside the lid when I am on my own to save it keying. Very easy to fit - took 5 minutes. Bit longer for the wifes cheaper lid as it didnt have removable cheek bits but only a few minutes more. There are excellent instructions for most decent lids on the autocom website too.

Just had a quick squizz on the "bay - loads of sets on there.

I got mine from chainspeed.com but they have sold out of the older models.

While looking for a replacement for my wifes helmet, i found a Caberg helmet which for £120 supplement puts a bluetooth headset kit inside. So phone ect. can be linked up automatically with no wiring. Also if you have for instance a Sony Ericcson Walkman phone with bluetooth music streaming, you music can be streamed too with no wires.
