saw "HSV 454" on a new M3 today, could have been put to so much better use elsewhere I feel!
note to those like me that can't convert - 454 is 7.4 litres ie LS7.....

Except LS7 is 427 = 7.0L. Just getting one.
Not strictly true.....
Google 454 LS7 and ye shall see!
Maybe true of the new motors (and I don't have the knowledge or time to be bothered to research it) but there's deffo some LS7 motors out there with 7.4...
cool plate anyway...

ETA. You're right about the plate though!

HYDRAULIC ROLLER-400+ci, high rpm applications with major modifications and cathedral port cylinder heads.

ETA: LS7 Block at least. I ought to do a thread....
No, allright as this is an LS7ish thread. I already have the AFR heads etc. But this is what I'm doing: (As opposed to the LS2 402 originally planned)
GM LS7 Block built with
Callies Dragonslayer 4" stroke lightweight crank 24x reluctor.
Callies Compstar H Beam rods with ARP hardware.
ARP Mains studs.
Manley forged pistons -11cc with fancy rings blah blah
GM Cadillac racing lifters
SLP HD double Timing set
SLP High volume blueprinted oil pump.
Powerbond 10% underdrive pulley.
4" stroke x 4.165 bore = 7.0 litre oversquare howler. Should be good for 500ish rwhp.
Also been over to Redvictors today to arrange a built box to last (a little longer anyway)

I'm a bit like a standard exhaust system - too baffled........
but it sounds good!
Will it go faster than Ringram, Madmunky, Roger ,Jez and all the other uber motors out there? THATS the important bit!

Depends on there setups. I'm doing this for the two lane blacktop. It's not meant to be an old man's daily driver so I'll be surprised if it's comfortable.
And yes Jez that's the general idea at least.

Im running 0.647 lift on mine, stock LS7 is close to 0.600 anyway.
PAC do some nice doubles to suit.
With that cam Gareth might even do bigger gross numbers, but his setup is lighter and with the auto designed to decimate.
Mine is my daily driver, so I cant go as mental on the cam... yet..

when we've discussed cam profiles before you've always warned of emissions testing at MOT time - surely with that cam he hasnt a hope in hell of passing cats or no cats?
Correct. Though its a commercial vehicle and import, therefore subject to less stringent limits.
I just worked out the displacement to 7.15L or 436 cubes with that bore.
Mine isnt far off that as its not actually 440 cubes, its in the 43x range too. With that cam and ported fast90 and TB Id expect similar numbers. I think my top end might be a bit better, but there probably isnt much in it.
The fast90 might be your limiting factor at higher rpm. Im going to port my Throttlebody as I was getting a 4kpa restriction at full whack.

A lot has been theorised about how dirty cams and setups are. Remember mine is an imported commercial vehicle and subject to the lower spec' test. I have a mid range cam and no cats at the moment and mine passes without a problem, in fact it was within .1 of getting the Euro 3 pass!
When I get it all sorted the second thing I will do is take it down to the MOT station to get the emissions checked and we'll sort it from there. I personally think I will pass the test that is applied to mine.
I'm using Comp 918's at present but the AFR's have a healthy dual spring setup for this kind of set up . I have chrome moly push rods and Yella Terra Ultralite roller rockers. If they are not good enough I'll get a Jessel shaft mounted setup.

It's just that the launches could be very theraputic for my bad back and could save on osteopathic fees.

In case that one is too small, here is the next size up.
I got your email, but Ive exceeded my t-mobile 3g acceptable use policy limit for this month.
That means they restrict my access. Fortunately that still means Pistonheads is allowed
I suspect the one you mention might be a good one for driving to and from the track. The one below is probably getting into the race only category.
Over three years in the making, the new COMP Cams® LSR™ Camshafts are a new line-up of hydraulic roller camshafts featuring our most modern lobe designs for popular GM LS engines. Designed specifically for radical street performance and all-out race applications, these aggressive profile cams take advantage of today’s newer and better flowing aftermarket cylinder heads. The COMP Cams® LSR™ Camshafts feature higher exhaust duration and overall lift, making them the right choice for engine builders looking for the most advanced camshaft designs you can purchase in an off-the-shelf cam.
Increased exhaust duration & overall lift for radical street & all-out race engines
Broadest powerband & most top-end power of any LS cams ever created by COMP®
Modern, aggressive lobe profiles – more aggressive than XFI™ Cams
Performs well with both cathedral & rectangle port GM LS cylinder heads
Designed specifically for use with the new #26926 Ultra Dual Valve Springs
Three-bolt timing gear cams as found in many GM LS1, -2, -6 & -7 engines
HYDRAULIC ROLLER-420+ci, high compression, high rpm, cathedral CNC-ported heads in race type applications.
Hyd. Hyd.
2600 to 7000

Jez, what sort of cam are you running in your ls7? Got any rough specs?Gunna keep it streetable

Im guessing if its emissions friendly and NOT stock then it will be 22x/23x or thereabouts. I think stock is 218/230-117 or something.
Though a turbo cam might have less exhaust duration than an NA cam. Is yours going to be ready for the drag day?
How will you tow it home?
