Parcel shelf projectiles
Discussion
Excellent illustration on Fifth Gear last night of how dangerous it can be to carry stuff on the rear parcel shelf as it becomes an unguided missile in a crash, even at 30 mph.
I was surprised to see a box of tools break its way out of the boot and into the pasenger space in a similar simulated crash. Spanners flying everywhere.
Reminds me of an accountant chum who was banged up the backside (of his Renault) by a lorry, the driver of which was on his mobile phone. Renault was stopped, waiting to turn right.
Dopey accountant had his Skye terrier on the rear parcel shelf and the dawg ended up having the car knocked from under him, which resulted in Fido being hurled through the rear window and into the road.
No animals were hurt during the making of this accident. Well, it ran home in horror............

Hopefully putting the kids in the back will offer some protection!
