On the AUH-DXB main highway what are the tolerances on the cameras? I only go about 10kmph over past them, but see others going through at a high speed!

Was travelling along yesterday on the Emirates road and went through one at over 170 leptons, but no flash!

Hey Matt - I've been done once...at 40kph over the limit...which bagged me a Dhs.700 fine. That was one of those newer, thinner digital cameras on the Sheikh Zayed Road. I've been past plenty of others without a flash...I suspect they don't all have cameras in them.

We have an office in DXB and AUH and the driver that shuttles us between meetings say that the AUH cameras are set to go off at around 160kph. DXB ones are set at around 125kph.

I still see Patrols with thin tyres (what's with them - presumably they are not sand tyres?) going past at warp speed - I know one senior manager (local chap) at a large bank who reckons he can leave his office in Hamdan St and be at DXB Interchange 1 in 1.5 hours. The fines he collects are treated as a price for using the roads...

Was passenger in a warp-speed equiped (Emirati Heavy Right Foot V1.1) Prado this morning with a chap who insisted that the cameras on Dub side are set at 140km and on Ab side at 160km. He seemed right as none of them flashed.

Yes, they are sand tyres. They let the pressures right down, and they have a big squashy footprint.

The idea of the counter intuitive longitudinal grooves is that they don't break the sand up and just spin, but instead can squeeze and grip the sand, so getting better traction. It's all theory to me though - I've not had a go in one.

Abu Dhabi side is 160km.. Dubai used to be 140km, but I now travel at lower speeds than that. I've seen the new cameras flash lower than that..

That is spot-on. Although some don't work at all its not worth the risk trying to find out which ones....

Learnt today that AD police are looking to outsource the operation of cameras because they don't have resource to stock/maintain/check images on them. Make hay while the sun shines!

Abu Dhabi cameras are at 160kph, Dubai is split in to two 120kph where the limit is posted as 100 and 140kph where the limit is posted as 120.

Abu Dhabi police have recently announced that their cameras on the Al Ain-Dubai highway will be set at zero tolerance - 120 means 120, anything over that will get you a fine....

I think I saw a sign up on that road lately saying something similar.

I could be wrong!

It's true - I've started playing rugby at the sevens and we've all been warned.
