Removal Company Costs
Discussion
Can anyone give me an idea on costs of hiring a removal company.
1 Bed flat (2nd floor but with a lift) with the typical double bed, 2 Sofas, dining table, TV and stand etc and a few bits of furniture. We don't have a great deal to be moved but I am wondering whether the costs of taking a day off (losing a days wage) and hiring a van etc. is much less than hiring a company.
We would box and prepare all the stuff and it would need to be moved 30 miles down the road.
Just need a ballpark figure.

Doing similar (plus a bit actually) from South Manchester at the end of January cost us £125 inc generous tip to the guys for being incredibly kind and helpful and generally putting up with us being embarrassingly disorganised.
£125!!! Bloody hell. I was thinking closer to £300 - £400.Guess I'll make some calls on Monday.
The reality is that irrespective of distance you are hiring 2 guys and a lorry for a day. It will take them a couple of hours to load, and a couple of hours to unload, an hour for the drive, and an hour for lunch.
With removal companies you do need to get quotes seem to recall ours varied from £880 upto £2,200! But that was for a 3 bed house and included the packing.
Taking the packing services means your valuables are insured by them. If you don't use theor packing service they wont pay out if things are broken.
Personally I would always use a removal company it takes away so much stress. Equally if you are moving to a property where someone is moving out of they will put the pressure on the other guys to go if they haven't finished!
When we moved our removers told the moving out owner who was moving himself he had 30 minutes to empty the house, and if he didn't he would be responsible for their overtime at £100 an hour! Never seen a house emptied so fast, even if it did all end up on the lawn!

I shouldn't think more than £3-400.1 Bed flat (2nd floor but with a lift) with the typical double bed, 2 Sofas, dining table, TV and stand etc and a few bits of furniture. We paid £680 to move the contents of a 3 bed house (which included the taking apart of a bed, wardrobe and multi-gym, and re-assembling in the new house) about 50 miles. This included them packing the kitchen, but not the other rooms...
