My girlfriend’s father turns 50 in August and I’m trying to come up with a good present. As he is quite into his whisky I’d like to get him a good bottle, but all I know is that he generally likes Scottish single malts. I know next to nothing about whisky and would grateful for some ideas. I’m looking to spend up £50.

You'll certainly get a nice bottle for 50quid. See if you can find out what region is his favourite - you'll watse your money if you buy a nice ardbeg and he hates islay malt ot a macallan and he hates the strongly sherried stuff...

For a good compromise try talisker or highland park. 50quid will almost get you a highland park 18 which is superb.

Ardmore would be worth looking out for too.

Balvenie Rumcask or Portwood would both be a good present. I love the rum finish as an after dinner whisky.
