How about a Panerai? I've got a 12 week old one I might sell if he's interested? Should come in just above budget smile

That's a bit like saying "My mate's got £15,000 to spend on a new car. Any ideas?" If someone said that, you might want to ask a few questions about his lifestyle and what he wanted to use it for...whether it would be his only car to use every day, or something for the weekend. If it was to be one of a number of cars, you'd ask what he had already. Same applies here I think.

fair enough, he currently owns a Raymond Weil that is a bit cartier tank like. as such i think he would be after a round face.

I know he likes the style of Daytonas, Navtimers and the Tag Carrera range. Cant' see him going for someone like Sinn or anything as I think he is after one of the more recognised brands.

Hope this helps and sorry for previous vagueness.

Thanks

If its chunky watches he likes he wont go wrong with a Panerai wink

A daytona is WAY out of his price range I'm afraid.

I know the Daytonas are way out of range, just a stylistic clue.

Cheers

Omega Speedmaster? He'll get some change and it's a classic design and will never date.

+1 - classic, timeless and still as effortlessly stylish 40 + years on.

For that money personally I'd be getting a Speedmaster, though plenty of Carreras about for that money as well.

Alternatively, the aforementioned Planet Ocean would be decent. I'd be happy if someone gave me either Omega to be honest!

Speedy sounds a good option, some of these may also appeal to him:

- TAG Aquaracer chrono
- Breitling chronomat
- Zenith Flyback (2nd hand)

Omega is off the list as his brother has one?!?! Weird i know.

What rolexes/IWc's can be picked up new for £2500 at the moment any decent discounts achievable?

looks nice but i fear a little to classical in design, think hes looking for something "younger" thanks for the replies so far.

It seems that 2500 is just under what he needs to spend to get the sort of thing he is after brand new.

didn't know there was a quartz version, and why would you want one anyway when you can get the auto for less than one bag?

Chunky watches for 2500 that aren't Omega? Interesting concept!

Oris?

Bremont (I can't decide between this watch with the black or the white face)

Baume et Mercier

I'm rather partial to the last two, bit more dressy than perhaps envisaged though.

Or you could stick with the original idea of the Tag, still a cracking looking watch.

My choice would be the Oris or the B&M. Agree on the TAG but every other bugger seems to have one!

I love the TAG on a black leather strap but would buy the bracelet version and source a decent strap for it separately.

At that price, you might have to go with the rubber strap instead of the bracelet, but have a look at the IWC Aquatimer:

...or haggle a bit harder for an Aquatimer Chrono:
