Hi
I have managed to win two tickets from the Times for the Friday of the Goodwood FOS. I was wondering what its like and how busy it will be especially on the friday as their not grandstand tickets i.e. will i be able to see much? Also im coming down from london is there usually lots of traffic around the venue and am wondering how when ish aim to get there for!

Any help much appreciated!

Many thanks

Rory.

Oh yes, you will see lots! Could even say you will see more than if you were in a grandstand for the event.

Highlights for me:

Get in the pits/paddock areas (all open, no special pass needed) get up close to the F1 teams (and I mean close, the noise is great yikes)and some very rare machines. [Note there is 2 paddocks/pits areas]

Super car paddock (left hand side of the house) again some great machines. Last year there was 3 veryons in a line smile.

Watch from around the start line, by the house, the grass bank as they turn left up the hill

Head up to the rally stage (take the free tractor ride, it's a bit of a walk wink) then walk back down through the forest. A must to hear them pop and bang yes

Watch the F1 cars go up the hill Amazing and the noise..well you will see! - watching by the house is good as they sometimes stop and do a rolling burn out cool

Make sure you wonder around the displays, check out all the areas, and if the weathers good (it's looking good) you will have a great day and one you wont forget.

Oh and get there early, the A27 is a pig of a road at the best of times! I would look to get there for 06:45 as gates open at 7am (thats what I will do wink). Also, gives you loads of time to look around the pits etc....you'll need it!

If he's coming from London he won't hit the A27.
If you go down the A3, and then take the A286 you'll be fine until you get to a small place called Singleton - the hill which goes down to this place is always stationary and can take ages. The bit where the B2141 merges into the A286 is slow as well.
We're going down on bikes this year purely to avoid the traffic.
There is an alternate route taking the A283 - but I've never been down that route so not sure what it's like - maybe someone can advise?

Don't worry about the traffic too much - it's not actually that bad. Once you get there you'll have a terrific time.

Thanks for the advice and tips guys! Really looking forward to it, it looks like a great day out. Good to hear that not being in the grandstand will be much of a disadvantage (from the other thread)

Cheers

If you're coming from east london use the M23 / Petworth / Duncton route

I live on that route - sort of.

Best road in is the A283 through Petworth, so come off the A3 at Chiddingfold/Elstead/Milford, find your way onto the A283 to Chiddingfold. One long road to Petworth.

Through Petworth and then first exit at the mini roundabout (straight on), after a few miles go past Seaford College and your nearly there. Sign posted in from there....

Last went in 2006 (thanks to those kind peeps at the sunday timessmile ), didn't rush down as had the mrs in tow and joined the que to get in about 1/2 mile from the gate. This year will be doing pretty much the same ( thanks again sunday times smile )but I am taking a mate so we'll be leaving earlier so I can get some decent pics in the paddocks before the crowds.

Best time to go to the paddock IMO. Also, good time to get a view of the 'display' outside the house....they are saying this year is something special (not that previous years haven't been, they have always been yikes)....only a few days and we can find out bounce

Don't forget the cathederal paddock. It's behind the supercar paddock and usualy houses the unusual stuff like the Pikes Peak specials, Chevvy Chapparal 2J ( couple of years back) and anything else off the wall and left field.

Thats the one, I couldn't think of the name of it the other day!
Some very interesting machines like the Napier Railton cool (I was in the paddock when they started it last year biggrin)

Look out for pre launch new models as well, I remember the Nissan GTR a few years back and the Fiat 500 Arbarth from last year. Both were sitting in the corner of the paddock 'waiting' to be discovered!
I'm sure they are placed to see if anyone notices them!

Oh and don't forget the bikes, looking forward to seeing Barry's RG500. I'm sure there will be some great old stuff as well.

The only problem with taking the A283, is that you don't get to drive through 'Cocking' and down the 'cocking causeway' ...which is always a source of much amusement. hehe

Yes but if you take the A286 you end up going through 'I Like Felching' which is probably worse.

Doesn't that lead on to Bourneville Boulevard?
