I'm going to do an engine conversion in an accident damaged TVR to see if s6 of V8 BMW engines will fit. I wish to create a reliable and cheap to run alternative to the stock engines and am interested to hear from PH members/gauge oppion. Should there be good interest I would like to offer to fit or sell the conversion as a kit.
(Obviously there is no point considering such a conversion if no one is interested or would pay what it would cost to produce!
Please select your prefered engine rebuild/option and how much you would like to pay.
Cheers for the feedback.

Have just checked and engine weight differences are negligable (if you use an all ali bmw engine) and dimension wise, because the BMW leans at 30 degrees it will fit where a Speed 6 can! (6 pot)
Now the V8 is another question I'll have to investigate.
Should I assume that someone with a RV8 wouldn't go for the BMW 8pot but might consider a BMW V8. FOr example an M5 or new M3 engine??

The TVR Power S6 4.3 upgrade seems to be getting excellent reviews and you get a 5yr unlimited milage warranty. How much more reliable do you want?
At the price these are now (6,999+vat) 5 years warranty, what more do people want??? This would be the only option I would go for when the time comes.D14 AYS said:

Can you tell me what the difference is between the 'BMW 8 pot' and a 'BMW V8' ? Or do you mean people with an RV8 wouldn't consider the BMW straight six?I suspect they wouldn't consider the BMW V8s either. On the basis that BMW V8s have multivalve heads which are, by consequence, very wide.

I take it you are talking about an engine replacement for the Chimarea? If so would recommend going the Chevy LSx route. Talk to Jellison on here, he went that route with his Chim and it was a very impressive car, been a passenger in it, incredible, masses of smooth effortless torque and laughably easy to service.

One of the main sources of whinging from owners when TVR moved to the S6 was the change in the sound track (despite the fact a straight 6 is somewhat quintessentially English)… so I’m surprised there is any enthusiasm for a 6 pot BMW engine (I have vague recollections of PW passing comment on not having anything German in his cars too).
Given the availability of JLR knowledge, I’m surprised you haven’t looked at the possibility of fitting a supercharged Jag V8 from the old XKR…
As for what would replace a blown engine in the Griff - simple, I'd trot off to V8 Developments and ask them to add a few more Blackpool donkeys to the tab.

A BMW V8 won't fit hence the popular route of LS conversions, I think you should bear in mind that any engine conversion is never a straightforward thing, things like making custom exhaust manifolds, getting the ECU to work in its new home or fitting an aftermarket one and getting the gear-lever in the right place are solved ina few hours of spanner weilding hence the 7K+ cost of fitting an LS et al
and as has been said 7K buys you a helluva lot of Rover build or even a 5 year guaranteed speed six build
