Mobile PH

Somebody mentioned that you guys were looking for beta testers for this - I can't see any threads but I do a lot of mobile browsing - TyTN II running WM6.0 and Opera, would be happy to help.

I try to browse PH on my Tytn 2 with Opera 9 and Wince 6 (or whatever the hell it is called) but find it immensely un-friendly to use. IE is even worse so PH doesn't get a look in till the evenings when everything topical has happened

So if you are after volunteers to help improve mobile browsing, count me in too.

I'm surprised PH won't run well on the TyTN, the underlying code is pretty compliant and one would think it would render ok on most devices, it certainly does on my Blackberry Pearl which has a truly awful browser.

On the whole it's not too bad on Opera/TyTN2/WM6.0 for me, but I guess I'm used to it IE is crap though...

I'd be up for testing for iPod touch too. It renders ok at present but doesn't cope with zooming to make text readable - doesn't wrap at all

I'd offer to help out too, but only if you do something to restrict the number of nested quotes possible first... It's bad enough ploughing through them on a PC, on a phone I'd lose the will to live.

Posting this from my TyTN2 now. The actual theads are a lot easier to read as I don't have to scroll around to see the name of the posted. It would be nice to have a larger posting window as the one I am currrently using is a third of the width of the screen and 2/3rds the height (on a landdscape screen) and I have no idea what i am typing as it went off the bottom of the screen a long time ago!

I agree it needs my stuff, etc. There doesn'# seem to be much of a difference on he forum screens but I think my combo renders it pretty well normally othe full PH site).

It would be nice to se the forum a topic has come from when we get mystuff / group forum viewing...

I have just had a quick play, and I can access everything... Except the forums. It just comes up with the banner with the 6 or 7 options and a link to take me back to the top of the page.

The rest of it looks good.

In all fairness, the only things that I have not got on explorer is the report button, being able to click on posters names to get to their profile or mail them, and the new clickable headers for the grouped forums/ foraii?

If it starts working and it does these then I will find it just as easy to use as on a proper 'puter.

Change to the "Big Blue" theme - it helps a little.

It's working really well on iphone as you'd expect.

Problem is when I access the forums on my BlackBerry 8700 (an older model provided by work) the forums are blank.

I get the banner graphic, the header links (home, news, features etc) and then there is no content between those and the hyperlink for "top" and the Copyright script.

I'm fairly sure that there is no issues with the handset as I can bring up other websites easily, it's just the PH Mobile site forums that give problems.

The front page and news etc all seem to render up ok.

The only major bug bear for me at the moment is not being able to access 'My stuff' to catch up with the threads I've responded to. In truth, that would be enough to stop me using it full stop. (Unless I'm missing something?)

Same prob as I had above. Members just says join up to user this section. Doesn't give an option to sign in.

To answer a few of the questions above about the mobile site:

• The blackberry view is an issue with the blackberry custom style sheet set-up for the main website. For Blackberry to work on the mobile site we need to turn off this custom style sheet, unfortunately this will then affect all those who do not know about the test site as their view will suddenly change. So we will have to time the turn-off and turn-on appropriately. We are exploring alternatives though.
• MyStuff and What's New are still under development but will appear soon on the test site
• The Breadcrumb navigation is being fixed for Big Blue skin as it is missing (so you will be able to see the Forum a post or thread is in, and link back instead of starting again. This is in place on the Classic skin
• Clickable profile names should be working now
• Member login should be the only option when login in, or under member section so I will look into that.
