R Class - A sensible family car ?
Discussion
Am I mad ?
I'm going to see 2 different R class car tomorrow. Both second hand 30ish thousand milers, one a 280 and one a 320. Both near as dam it £20k...
I'm trading in the wife's Disco 3...
Any one have experience of these ?
Thanks
Tim
PS I'd be new to Mercs, had a lot of BMs before but this is for a different purpose.

You're not mad at all, we've got a 320 cdi and it's a very complete car. Obviously it's huge, but it's relaxing to drive and it's fantastic on long distances, maybe reaching low 30's mpg at steady 80-85mph on european roads.
They did a six seater for a while and then made it a seven seater in 2007 or 2008. Forget what everyone else says, that and the GL are the only real seven seaters out there if you're carrying anyone other than small-ish children. That goes for the Volvo XC etc.
It does feel somewhat like an S Class on stilts, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
