I had been given to understand that the poly vee drive belt that is used to drive the compressor for air con were virtually trouble free!

I have replaced one belt with a new one and this lasted less time than the one before.

The car is 320d E46 2005, any suggestions?

Was it a pukka OEM belt?

Are your pulleys perfectly in line with each other?

Are there any rough edges or surfaces on any pulleys?

Is your tensioner working o.k?

The replacement belt was an OEM. Since my original post I taken the car back to the local independant garage and their verdict was that the drive pulley on the crankshaft is shot and will need replacing.

I can feel expenditure coming my way!!

My 2005 520d (same belt configuration?) just shed its belt and the diagnosis is that the aircon compressor is starting to sieze. Horrible cost from BMW for a new one. I had my front pulley replaced when the car still in warranty last year due to excessive noise and vibration when cold, but that issue didn't seem to affect the aircon belt?
Sorry for thread hijack, but has anyone found a good source for repair or replacement of aircon compressors?
