Problem with my window

Wondering if anyone can help by firing suggestions my way. Have done a search for this but can't find a previous post with exactly the same issue.

Over the weekend my drivers window has started playing up and refusing to go down easily. It will lower the first couple of inches with no problems and then struggle to go lower. I can hear the window mechanism trying so don't think it is likely to be the motor.

The window raises with no problem at all. This was causing issues on Saturday but opened with no issues at all yesterday and this morning. However, the problem has come back again tonight and will only open a couple of inches before struggling and failing, again returning to fully closed with no issues either with the dial inside or the key fob.

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated!! Also, can someone please tell me how to take the door card off so I can have a look inside. Thanks

The door card has three allen screws in the bottom of the door pocket. remove them and the card will come off. Your issue sounds mechanical. I would take a look at the winder mechanism and runners before looking for electrical issues. Good luck

Thanks for that. I have had the door card off and when removed and the door open appeared to work as normal. As soon as I shut the door the problem commenced again. Looking at the mechanism whilst it was trying I think it may be that components are not sufficiently lubricated. Does anyone know what would be best to get and spray on in order to lubricate them better? Would a silicone based spray be best?

Silicon spray is good for the glass runners but the metal screw mechanism should be liberally greased with a light (white) grease.

mine is the opposite.

on clsoing it really struggles over the last 2 or 3 inches & i sometimes have to help it up by hand.

would this be caused by similar faults to the OP's problem?

Try taking the window out and operating the mechanism, that will tell you if its the window runners of the screw mechanism that need attention. The window is held in with 4 allen screws which secure a rubber pad at the bottom of the glass.

Thanks all for your help. I went along to Halfords after work and got some white grease spray and applied it to the chain mechanism. I also sprayed some silicon grease on the runners and the window works perfectly. In fact, better than the passenger one which I thought was absolutely fine before. Another job for the weekend I think!
