I have an sri 140 vectra b at present but she just hasnt the performance i want. I would buy a v6 or a gsi but i cant afford one. Is it possible to get a carlton gsi engine into a vectra b? Or on how to squeeze some more power out of the present eco tech engine. Cams and carbs have been takin into consideration. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anything can fit anything if you're keen and able enough....with deep enough pockets.

Although possibly not a straight six Carlton RWD carlton engine into a transverse front wheel drive Vectra.

Not without widening the bodyshell by a couple of feet, anyway. wink

Except he did say engine and gearbox...therefore in rwd configuration.

As I say, anything can be made to fit.

He did said that the reason he was asking was that he couldn't afford a GSi or V6, though...

I think that the cost of re-engineering a Vectra for RWD would come to considerably more than the cost of upgrading to a GSi. Hell, the IVA/Engineer's report alone would cost more.

We're definitely talking Cloud Cuckoo Land, here, guys...

Ok...so you are having a laugh after all.

If you intend retaining FWD...then you've no mission, and really no notion about the engines/boxes involved in your statement.

I posted my statement to aquire some info from somebody who knows what their talking about. Any fool can tell you anything will fit, because that is an obvious out come with a bit of time and effort. At present we have a stock car running two red top's simultaniosly. You pal havent a notion. If you did you might have posted some helpful tips instead of being a wkerbiglaugh

if you can't afford a V6 vectra how can you afford to make one from a 1.8whatever and insure it?

A friend of mine destroyed his carlton and is willing to sell me the running gear for 250 quid. My insurance isnt a problem. I was running an evo 1 before the vectra and a turbo gsi before that. Just had a son and going to finish my bachelor in mech enginnering so trying to get cheap power. I can do most of the work myself.

The biggest tip you need..is to open your eyes, if you cant see what is in front of you, how is the internet going to help ?

And I'd guess that even on a bad day...Ive forgot more notions than you'll ever have.

So, just to clarify, are you talking about putting this Carlton lump in and keeping it FWD, or re-engineering it to make it RWD? If its the latter, even considering you would do some of the work yourself, I imagine it would probably cost slightly more than the 27 pence you could buy a used Vectra V6 for.
