vibration up through steering wheel +80mph
Discussion
Hi
Ive got high vibration through the steering wheel that sometimes shakes the car. I thought It was the wheel so I fitted a new spider, the problem is still there. It also shakes under braking but only when above 80mph. My next thought would be a warped brake disc but would that not vibrate at any speed? Your thoughts would be very helpful cheers Andy.

is it noisy - suspect tyre mishape (run your hands round the tyre - you'll feel it) The Goodyear F1's (chinese) on my Mondeo suffered from big tyre distortion.
just vibration and noise at that speed - wheel flat/out of balance. Someone once told me this can be common with spiders?
cv joint?

If the old tyre was fitted to the new wheel it will have worn to the shape of the old wheel, once it wears to the new wheel it will need rebalancing, specially if the old wheel was a long way out. Its normal for tyres to need a balance again after they have worn in.
Make sure you get all 4 balanced as a rear can transmit vibrations through the car but you notice on the steering.

Well wheel balancing is very straight forward, but some people are just too lazy to do it properly. It does make me laugh though when people spend a fortune on getting new tyres and wheels balanced with a super accurate
machine, soon as you drive down the road and wear the tyres a little they will be out again. Any tyre centre should be able to get wheels balanced properly if they have a half decent machine.
