Unplugging battery on B6 S4
Discussion
Yup more questions from me. Sorry!
Just a quick one though - I'm goin to be installing the oem audi Bluetooth in my car hopefully tonight and first step is to unplug battery. All cars I work on are plain and simple but the electric-heaven that is the audi I just wanted to be sure there wasn't anything to be aware of - especially when plugging back in, I don't need to reset or anything?
Thanks

Just be happy you don't have to put a new battery in. My battery died last Sunday and the only place open (after being jump-started by the AA) was Halfords. I paid for their fitting service (£5) but after 2 hours they could not even get the old one out, let alone fit the new one. So, the next day, using the new battery to jump start the car, I went to the Audi dealership to be relieved of £60.
Once you have reconnected it, you may need to reprogram the one-touch windows, the stereo should be fine, I had to use the key in the ignition to 'associate' it with the car again so the remote buttons worked.

Marc thanks very much for the reply sorry to hear of your woes! I trust you're still loving the carin all other respects? I've really fallen in love with mine!
When you say reprogram the windows what do you mean I've not heard o that before? Also you say about leavingthey key in the ignition, do you mean when you plugthe battery back in?
Thanks again for the info! Sorry about poor formatting I'm on my phone!

Normally, if you move the window switch down briefly, the windows go all the way down, the same on the way up. Sometimes this can stop working after disconnecting the battery. If I remember correctly, you 'reprogram' this by continuing to hold the switch down for 5 or 10 seconds when the window is all the way down.
The key thing was basically that the remote unlocking and locking did not work after the battery was reconnected and so I just had to start the car with the key in the ignition and it seems to work ok after that. YMMV.
If I am honest, I still miss my old S3. It was much more fun on the backroads and I loved that turbo-charged wave of torque. The S4 is much more of a cruiser, and it does that very well. I never tried any 0-60 runs in the S3 for fear of my clutch but I thought I'd try one in S mode in the S4. Wow. No delay. No shuddering. No wheelspin. Just go, and lots of it. I actually felt slightly short of breath.

Before I put the new battery in, I had all sorts of odd electrical symptoms. The air conditioning fans would always go to minimum, even though it was very hot. And the gearbox selection display showed all gears selected and it would only engage 2nd. Very worrying but luckily all cured with the new battery.

I believe this is just reassociating the key with the car, I had to do it with my S4 when the battery ran out on the key fob and I replaced the battery, it is in the manual how to do it, but essentially it is as Mark says, Thanks everyone - very useful info. In the end I didn't unplug the battery last night as I need some more connectors before plugging everything in, but I now know what the score is
And, worryingly my keyfob stopped working a bit at the weekend. Thought "ah, new battery". So replaced battery and it didn't work. It's been working fine ever since now though. Turns out that was because it reassociated with the car when I started the engine - I'm chuffed about that! so I've learnt something extra here too
I'm installing the Audi bluetooth kit myself, hence the question, and it's not as difficult (or expensive) as you may think. Around £300 all in for all the official Audi bits, including the newest module (so detects iphones and similar). The wiring is taking a little bit of working out, but nothing major - it's straight forward, just have to be logical.
So thanks again for the info!
