Hi everyone,

I bought my first TVR last April, a Tuscan S and I would firstly mention that I absolutely love it!

As expected, I have had the usual initial problems with the electrics (windows and pod) and a few build issues (doors and boot not fitting correctly causing damage to the paintwork). The dealership has been great and corrected all issues without complaint.

However, I am having an ongoing problem with the boot lid rubbing up against the rear screen. This causes a really annoying squeaking noise (quite loud!) along with damage to the paintwork on the boot lip (where the rubber strip inside the boot lip wears away in the middle) and to the rear screen. The dealership have twice now had the boot lip shaved and respayed, along with adjustments to the position of the boot, but it is still squeaking! The bodyshop the dealership use have advised me that they can not shave anymore away.

Has anyone suffered this problem to the extent that I am currently? And if so, have you managed to correct matters any other way? The only way I can now think of correcting this problem is to stick a lump of foam in the middle of the rear screen where they meet. Not ideal I know!

Any feedback , ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated, as the car is due in on 15/12 for it's 6K mile service and I would like to try clear this issue up.

Cheers,

Del

Quiet a lot of Tuscans I have seen appear to be a very close fit between the boot lip & rear screen, however are you shure the squeak is coming from this point and not where the upper edge of the screen fits into the roll over hoop, as this is more common. The fix for this is to use a strip of velcro 10mm deep (soft side)on the outside of the screen as in this photo

Hope this helps.

Same here. When I picked up the Tusc in March, I noticed a white scuff on the bottom of the rear glass only visible from inside the car. I thought it was a smear of polish and a quick wipe would see it off, but was a bit miffed to find it was a scuff from the leading edge of the boot lid. I also had a chorus of mice singing to me from the top edge where the perspex meets raw GRP. After searching various threads on the subject, I did the velcro thing at the top, which eradicated the singing mice. Then, for good measure, I put an inch wide strip the full width of the bottome to give the boot something to rub against intead of perspex. All quiet now.

The boot lid should have a strip of "something-like-velcro" on it anyway (I think) I am sure mine was added by the dealer as it had been "forgotten" by the factory - am now wondering if it is just the dealers solution?? Should point out that it was about 3 years ago and would have expected TVR to have picked up on the idea if it was a dealer thing, they also came up with the rubber bit on the boot catch to stop it damaging the roof when the roof is in the bott, TVR took on that idea very quickly!

Yep, I agree with the others. My Tuscan squeaked so loud I couldn't hear the engine

After much experimentation I put a strip of velcro "loop" across the slot at the top of the screen (fixed inside the bit where the top of the screen fits in - outside edge. I went this route as you can't see the velcro when the screen is in place). I put another on the screen at the point where it rubs against the boot lid and one more on the boot lid which helped a bit more.

Amazingly it still squeaked

In the end, after much frustration and fiddling, I found I needed one more strip attached to the body of the car at the rear of the roof. This has finally silenced the little bu99er

This fits nicely as the width of the velcro is just slightly narrower than the vertical part of the roll hoop it is attached to. It runs almost the full width between the rear roof locating pins. If you want pix email me via my profile.

Best of luck

Is this the other velcro strip:-

Helped on mine as well.

A small piece on the rear screen catches also helps to stop the screen moving around.

Yep - that's the strip. I too have put some on the catches which helps stop the screen moving and also under the roof mounting brackets at the rear as these were touching the bodywork and making a noise.

I still get an occasional clicking noise from somewhere (only when the rear screen is in place) which I can't trace.

As a belt and braces fix I run over all the rubber seals with silicon spray on a rag every time I wash the car. It may not have stopped any squeaks but it's certainly a lot easier to get the front of the roof to slip in to its slot now and it helps prevent leaks!

Anyway - it's a million times better than before

Sounds like we have done exactly the same, I also still get the odd click although as you say a million times better

The other thing I have found on my car is the screws on the bottom screen catches come loose and allow the screen to move around more - I am talking about the little screws that hold the black plastic bit in to the metal catch, not the screws that hold the metal to the body. Mine had come loose and since tightening them my screen stays in place better and also doesnt squeak!
