mixing used slicks with new

probably a daft question but that never stopped me before,
i run 16" on the front with 17" rears, i can get hold of ex touring car slicks (one heat cycle) all be it a 20 minute thrashing, quite cheap in 17" but can't buy second hand 16", so can i mix brand new fronts with used once rears,and stay on the track, all opinions welcome.

Ive done it the past with no problems tim i had a habit of flat spotting the fronts all the time on the turbo taz(avoiding early brakers). Only problem was lack of traction out of corners as the WURBINE chimed in with well worn rears.

Not sure how new slicks compare to R888's i.e. do they need any bedding in, as it took the new R888's 4 laps before they was gripping ok.

Will you get enough heat into touring car spec tyres to get any grip?

Ideally you should put them through a heat cycle before you use them for a race. i.e. get them up to temp (3-5 laps max) then let them cool fully. You'll get much more life out of them doing this than slapping them on new and going racing

Well did not have much of a option. but I only did 8 laps in qualy, 4 was quite gentile before pushing hard in the 1st race, 2nd race I managed to get a replacement slick.

LOL im more used to mixing old slicks with older slicks... as long as your aware of how its going to effect the handling and balance no problems with mixing tyres..even across the axles...

Talking about this...... Does any one have any 'Old slicks' that they might like to sell on, or might know where I might get them from? Looking for 18" by 9" wide. Thought I might try them to get that go-kart feel....as I was told about.
